Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Greetings - the gas cylinder struts on my engine bay are about to give out. The ones at the Porsche dealer seem laughably expensive. On prior cars (my Lexus LS460) I was able to find perfect aftermarket replacements on the bay for about $20. Anyone have any links to a good aftermarket / cheap supplier?

POST 3Original post

Pelican Parts...add oil/air filters, etc. = free shipping. I have those on my car & they work fine. (no affiliation).

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sounds good - anyone dealt with any sellers or ebay stores that have the right items for the 996??

POST 5Original post

Pelican Parts for sure. I did both front and rear at the same time. EZ Breezy...took about 10 mins total.

POST 6Original post

I bought my gasdruckfeders from Suncoast Porsche Parts. It's a easy fix. Even at their discounted price, I think they were ~$70sih for the pair.

POST 7Original post

buy the cheap one they work just fine. I had them replaced on my front trunk as well, worked flawlessly for the past two years.

POST 8Original post

Does anyone know if you can add a second strut to the engine lid?

POST 9Original post

Spender, I've ordered parts for my 99 C2, BMW and Benz from these guys. If order is over $75, shipping is free. Prices seem to be very reasonable and it's Canadian so no issues with customs and brokerage fees. Their web site says they have the struts. http://www.autopartsway.ca/ Cheers

POST 10Original post

Pep Boys will order the struts for you for much less. Work perfect, and good quality.

POST 11Original post

I'll add to the ease of this "project". I got mine form Pelican. The back of your head will thank for doing it.

You might try search. There was a thread on this a month or two back. I believe the answer is yes, but can't remember if you have to buy any additional brackets, or if it is already setup to take the strut.
