Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

A few months ago I was looking around on the internet trying to find a sound clip of a 996 with cat bypass pipes without any other significant modifications (for example- there is a clip on youtube however it is also with muffler bypass pipes). The video is now very artistic however you get the point. The first video was quite early in the morning after a rain- hence the condensation. A few words about the cat bypass pipes. I like the sound however if you have heard a 996 with muffler bypass pipes, the cat bypass pipes sound high pitched and strange. The engine is more responsive. MORE fun to drive. The engine is loud however not unreasonable for daily use (unlike muffler bypass pipes). At idle, the engine is not too loud. I have not noticed major droning when cruising. Here is the link the clip I placed on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlcBhv6rue8 -Steve

POST 2Original post

Steve, Cool video. What exhaust do you have? It sounds like the stock (non-PSE) in the video.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have the mkII PSE mod on 2003 mufflers. Also, have fabspeed CAI and KN filter. No other major engine/intake/exhaust mods.

POST 5Original post

i have the fister muff bypass, (like it) and was thinking about cat bypass also. one other thing, i sw one company sold a 90 degree elbow for the o2 sonser so it would not trip cel. and they want like $200 for the dam things. do you have a cel?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I did get a CEL. I then got 90 degree extensions for the O2 sensors and still got a CEL (I did clear the old CEL prior to install). I go the extensions on ebay for around $15 per. I took the cat bypass pipes off for a different reason and the CEL went away. At one point, I put muffler bypass pipes and the cat bypass pipes on- the car was extremely loud. It was so loud that it was not even close to reasonable for the road. Here is a clip of my car on the drag strip without muffler or cats- it is toward the middle of the clip (yes, I know, I got beat by a dodge ram- my car isn't setup for drag strips and I had never driven on a drag strip- hence the very embarrassing start). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9g4T02MI89Q

I'm not sure what the deal was with the time on the sign. I was 14 flat and he was just under 14 according to the slips. I was catching him very quickly. After the race, I conceded fair and square, then I suggested that the next race take place on a road course. 911's are not setup for drag strips however they shine on courses like Mid-Ohio. I would love to see a Dodge Ram racing on Mid Ohio.
