Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
it probably is difficult to get it to sound like a cup car without changing the cams and the intake.
Leading evidence: 'Replace cams and the intake' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace cams and the intake' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

They are selling cheap Chinese crap at $95 a set of headers. What do you think?
Have you thought about doing an internet search on DPT Motorsport? They don't even have a website. My guess is they take orders for their "products" and then have them shipped to you from the overseas supplier.
The Vortex is strong with this one!
Nothing wrong with being frugal. I sure don't buy my Porsches new. But there's cheap... and then there's vwvortex cheap. "Dude, I really want to buy that VW grateful dead sticker, but it's over three dollars! I wonder if they take lay-away?"
yeah they are probably crap. I guess these are too=

the factory exhaust manifolds look like they would flow pretty good anyways. spending $2-300 on headers for a street car probably wouldn't even be felt.
I have not tried them but the flange looks thick enough as to not warp easy, but you may research the size of the tubes and see how they measure up to the more expensive ones in size and for 99 bucks you can do a write up. To me expensive does not equate to the welds not cracking or getting them replaced is going to be better experience either and in this case you can just toss em'.
As far as the ney sayers do not worry when I post my side skirts going on my car your post will qwickley be forgotten.
what are you looking for ???
a little more sound? or you just itching to buy something?
for a little more sound try the Gillette Mod ($3.00) and 5 minutes plus you get a free can of shaving cream to use
a little more.... try Hack Mod MKII for your mufflers (get a set of 3.6 OEM cans for ~ $150 and spend $50 to get the mod welded in... less than an hour to swap - great sound)
even more ? try some by-pass pipes - $200 for knockoffs or $400 for used fabspeeds, takes 30 pounds off the back of the car and sounds very aggressive... 40 minute job
i got a pair of something like these. i believe they were from a factory in china that sold them for $30 per unit, and someone tried to bring them in a container and double their money on them.
I put them on just for the hell of it, since 5hp gains does nothing to improve noticable performance, what's losing 5 hp if that were the case. Just take out the spare tire if you're so concerned about marginal differences, it's not like a stop and go traffic light drag race would notice if you were 5 hp over or less than stock.
with that said, it sounds like an F1 car now with the cheap headers, they look just like Fabspeed designs, the only difference is the tubes may or may not be the same sizes, but who cares, it sounds awesome. When I was at the muffler shop years ago and they put them on, another customer at the shop was anxious to hear how it sounded, when I drove away I floored the car away, and I could see his face in the rear view mirror as I was pulling away on he was in awe with the sound change.
It got more high pitched, kind of like a F1 race car.
The factory headers are completely terrible. As I recall it's just three pipes welded into the side of a slightly larger pipe. It's a joke, but a great way to pull "more" power out of the higher models.
Now, chances are these are poorly made with low quality materials, but hey, it'd be a nice sound for a couple hundred bucks and maybe you'll get the good one out of the batch, never know.
Oh god the 997 ones are just
. Anyway, the 996 ones are better but nowhere near as good as what you would expect to see on the bottom side of a high end sports car.
pls i don't want to be banned by fellow rennlister for doing nothing wrong.
the sound is much better when it's driving down the road at 90mph.

just checkin back in on my thread;
ive been under the car to put modded mufflers on and i must say the stock headers are well headers! and tubular all the way to the collector. however i didnt measure the primary tube diameter or collector diameter. (which is how headers make their power, and flow) so until someone who races chimes in and knows for a fact i will just keep what i got.
My exhaust note did not sound mean until after the flash. I have evo intake, Fabspeed headers and mufflers with stock cats. The original setup was only muffler and intake. Headers went in and sounded deeper but felt mid range torque was lost somewhat. After the flash, the engine is strong through out the RPM range.
yeah, the evo intake still muffles too much, i'm looking for a better intake to get more grumble. I had the complete fabspeed exhaust before but it was too deep and actually quieter than this setup.
for $95 the headers weren't bad, the sound without headers was more subdued.
definitely to get it sounding more exotic it needs to be higher pitched.

Are those headers standard equipment on the 996? I ask becasue when I got under my car for the first time to change the oil, I saw similar headers and I remember thinking: Damn... this car already has headers!
There are previous threads on here somewhere where a guy bought the cheap headers from ebay and had it dyno tested and saw power reductions.
Stick to original equip.... i guess.
it probably is difficult to get it to sound like a cup car without changing the cams and the intake. i'm still working on that. my point was the sound improved with the cheap headers, and forget the dyno tests, +/- 5hp is not going to make you 1 minute late to work. i believe the problem with the cheap headers is diameter on each tube may be a bit smaller than needed hence the motorcycle type sound.
These are the only headers known to lose power over stock. They have an obvious flaw. Look at the tubing coming off the heads. Notice how they cone down at the ports. This is an immediate restriction. The reason why they do this it the tubing is too small, smaller than the stock headers. The collectors are also junk. They are just 3 tubes welded together. They are poorly designed and poorly built. The first guy to dyno these headers lost HP over stock. No matter the price (even free), these are a waste of money.
is that your mk2 in your avatar?
what can you say about the aero kit? did you buy it yourself/install/cost? $5000 is too much for me, but if i could get a deal.......
