I use a 3-ring binder and use plastic page protectors/sleeves to keep everything so I don't have to hole punch anything and the paperwork doesn't get damaged.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

When negotiating trade-in value, the dealer tried to ding me because the 30K service was not showing up on the carfax. Natch I have done it myself, so of course it's not on the history. They claimed - get this - that the 30K service was $2000 so that's why they were offering so little (since they would presumably have to pay to have it done before they could sell the car). I got so pissed off that I told them to stick it and left. This was, BTW, a non-Porsche dealership, and they were looking to wholesale the car to one of their chain Porsche dealers (or more likely, since it's an 02, just wholesale out entirely). Anyway, I've had a lot of dealers try to pull different tricks on me, but this was a first. And don't even ask what they were going to allow me on my pristine '02 cab. Criminal, it was. Hopefully the ghost of Dr. Porsche will forgive me for briefly thinking of straying... Michael

POST 2Original post

What a bunch of BS. 2 grand for 30k service is absurd. You did the right thing by leaving!

POST 3Original post

Such Bulls^** I paid $1200 for a 30K at a Porsche dealership. Show them the receipt for the oil and filters and tell them to shove it!

POST 4Original post

You could always have the 30K service done and bring the reciept with you. That would end any discussion of how much it's worth (the 30k service that is, not the car).

POST 6Original post

Yep, missed that. It's a long weekend, gimme a break!

POST 8Original post

Too bad that they tried to take you. A 30K maintenance is an under $200 and 2 hour operation.

POST 9Original post

I know they used a novel trick, but is this really a surprise? Car salesmen will use any trick or lie that they can to get the upper hand.

POST 10Original post

30,000 mile service is oil, filter, cabin filter, air filter, and what? check on the serpentine belt for damage? Put air in the tires? Water in the battery? $2000 for that? No wonder i do my own maintenance!

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 6881071

It doesn't surprise me in the slightest, and I'm glad you answered them with your feet.

POST 12Original post

Does the 30K service ever include spark plugs do to the age of the car (not mileage)? I have 35K on my 03 and along with the RMS and clutch they are recommending spark plugs. The 30K service was done by another dealer last year. Regardless, when they get my car for service next week the plugs will have been changed. I'm changing them this weekend.

POST 14Original post

This dealership must change your tires, steering wheel and the gas tank every 30 K.

POST 15Original post

This post is exactly why I don't trade cars into dealers or buy cars from dealers. Put your car for sale privately for just a little more than the dealer offered you and it will sell. Your Avitar looks like you have an Aero Kit car. That should go quick.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 6885826

I really should change that... I joined Rennlist when I had a 993, which obviously, I do not anymore (having upgraded to the far superior 996). I'm really not even sure that I want to sell my baby. There's nothing wrong with it other than being 8 years old. Michael

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 6887082

Well, that's no reason to sell the car. If she's beautiful, you still love her, and she's trouble free, then keep her... philosophy works with cars and women.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I like that philosophy. Thanks all for the comments. Yeah, I'll keep her for a while longer.

POST 19Original post

im just hitting 45k on my 2001. i have acess to a lift, and plan to do the service my self (45k). it is unfortunate someone may look at the carfax and see 45k serv isnt there. blasted old carfax!!

POST 21Original post

I think you should be able to hold on to your receipts for parts purchased and whatnot; that's what I do for anything I do on the car; mods, maintenance, receipts for the oil from the Autozone down the road, and printed documentation of what I did and at what mileage; you name it, I've documented it. I use a 3-ring binder and use plastic page protectors/sleeves to keep everything so I don't have to hole punch anything and the paperwork doesn't get damaged.
