Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, I have owned my car for 2 months now and the RMS is leaking. It's not leaking where it would leave spots on the floor but it is wet enough that it should be addressed. Dealer looked my car over and that was the only issue. Really glad this car has the "newer" CPO (issued in Feb 09). Now the car has 35,700 on the clock and the dealer recommended I swap out the clutch as well. He noticed the same thing i did, the pedal is quite heavy and sqeaks quite a bit. it might be a bad pressure plate. The previous owner wasn't the "best" manual driver from what I could see when we drove to the auto tag store. The dealer said "you're in luck! you won't have to pay for labor for the clutch install, just parts!" They said the clutch parts would cost about $800. I was born but, it wasn't yesteday. What is the best place (best price) for an OEM clutch kit? Suncoast? Sunset? I can't wait to see his face when he sees and oem clutch kit sitting on the passenger side floor.

POST 4Original post

but ask your dealer to match on price, mine typically will as they want the business and it keeps me loyal. I also get my tires from the dealer as they will price match TireRack, in fact last time they beat them significantly. It costs me a half hour of time from them, but I'd rather have them change a tire than some unknown wrench monkey so I pay that premium.

Does this mean you are BYOP (bringing your own parts) to the dealer? If there's a Porsche dealer near you that goes for that let me know - feel free to PM if you like. Last time I tried that I was told "that's like bringing your own food to a restaurant and asking the chef to cook it." (This was with an indy, and with parts I happened to have on hand for a planned DIY job, not ordered to give to the shop. The indy took the parts anyway and was quite nice about it, but point taken. My local non-Porsche specialist mechanic, and my motorcycle mechanic for that matter, seem to have no problem with BYOP and are happy for me to do the leg work.) (Which maybe isn't such a bad idea. )

POST 6Original post

You may want to also consider purchasing the IMS seal/unit as well. They upgraded it to a new design a few years back. I think it's only like $30 from the dealer, resembles a tri-pod. When I replaced the clutch in mine a year ago, I went ahead and bought RMS and IMS, it turned out to be the IMS leaking. That kept me from having to wait on parts to replace, I already had it. Great $30 investment. IMS is just below the RMS.

Not a bad idea but if the IMS seal needs replacing the dealer will most likely have the parts or can get them pretty quick. The car is not my DD so if they have it for another day it won't be the end of the world. SInce the car is CPO'd I'm not buying anything that the warranty should pay for. The clutch kit is OEM from Sunset and the dealer already told me they install all types of mods to customers cars and it has not impact on the warranty. If they give me a hard time about bringing my own clutch I will go right to the GM. They are making the warranty money on the RMS. The Service manager said his guys can have the trans out in an hour. I wonder how many hours ($$$) PCNA gives the dealer to do the RMS?
