Suggestion

Try as we did, we just couldn't figure out what was limiting that one side to -0.4, so in the interest of balance, we had to set the other side to -0.4 as well.

In my case I was able to get -2.5 degrees camber up front with the GT3 arms using three 7mm shims.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 2003 C2 w/ X74 suspension and 235/40R18 285/30R18 tires. Does anybody know what the maximum negative camber adjustment possible on the front wheels? The factory spec is F -0.5 deg (30') R -1.67 deg (1* 40'). I am thinking of adjusting it to F -1 deg R -2 deg. Can anybody offer any feedback on how that will feel or offer their experiences with different X74 alignments? I drive mostly on the street with the some track days and autocross.

POST 2Original post

I too have a '03 C2 coupe with X74. When we installed the X74 parts, the most negative camber we could get up front was -0.4 degrees, which is nothing. Unless you want to elongate the three holes in the body at the strut top mount (which is NOT recommended at all), then the only "adjustability" you have is to push the strut tops as far inward as possible within those stock holes and then do the rest of the alignment adjustments from there. That's the max negative you can get up front with all other parts being stock, AFAIK. In the end, I decided to invest in the '04 GT3 street control arms up front since they are a split design and allow the addition of shims which push the bottom of the strut outwards, widening front track and alloowing you to dial-in more negative camber. In my case I was able to get -2.5 degrees camber up front with the GT3 arms using three 7mm shims. Rear negative camber is much easier. With all your stock parts you can get -2.3 degrees at least (that's what I got) or maybe more. Others will chime-in, I'm sure, with their experiences. Good luck.

POST 3Original post

Something is definitely wrong if you could only get 0.4 degrees of negative camber. You should have EASILY been able to get more than that. Several options to get more are two piece lower control arms as well as GT3 strut tower mounts (the ones with 6 holes).

POST 4Original post

I'm with Dell. I had H&R sport springs on my car at one point and was able to get -1.1ish out of the front of my car. On coilovers at Euro GT3 MkI ride height in the front on the stock strut mounts I could get -1.8ish out of the front. I'd have to think the X74 is somewhere between the two. If you can get anywhere hear -1.5 in the front and -2.0 rear that would be a good all around setup. Depending on your preference setting front toe close to 0 will be a benefit as well. However it makes for a "lively" car on the street which some don't care for. Andy

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the tips so far. I've read recommendations that the difference between front and rear camber be 0.5 deg. Factor spec has just over 1 deg difference. I assume the factory setup is designed to favor understeer at the limits for safety. If I go with 0.5 deg difference how does the car handle at the limit? Does it still tend toward slight understeer or does the balance tip over to neutral/oversteer? This is mostly a street car (that I drive in the snow/rain) so I want to increase the "fun factor" driving on a track, but I don't want the handling to get too "exciting" on the street. What detriments am I going to notice in with F -1.5 deg compared to stock? Are changes in straight line braking or tire wear much different?

POST 6Original post

What do you want? Better turn in? Better cornering? Better tire wear? etc? Don't go on advice like "there should be .5 degree of a delta". Go with what your driving style and wants are as well as what the car will be used for. If you want to have a better street car it will be subpar on track and vice versa. You need to decide which compromise you prefer.

Dell, you are right, there was something wrong... and I had forgotten about it until I read your post. When we first installed the X74 on my car (removing the USA M030 in the process), we could only get -0.4 camber on ONE SIDE, but we could get, if I remember correctly, about -0.8 on the other side. So something was wrong. Try as we did, we just couldn't figure out what was limiting that one side to -0.4, so in the interest of balance, we had to set the other side to -0.4 as well. If we had had more time and a digital rack instead of working with strings and lying on the floor, we might have eventually figured it out. Since then, with my new control arms, the problem has been resolved. To the OP, I would defer to Dell's & other's experience here since mine was odd: You may very well be able to get sufficient (for your mostly street needs) front camber with just the X74 install. BTW: I love the X74 kit's ride... even on the street I prefer it to my old USA M030. Yes, it is low, but the bump-compliance is wonderfully well-judged IMHO.
