Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I going to have the oil changed in it tomorrow and have them check the clutch.
Leading evidence: 'Check clutch' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check clutch' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The repair shop recommended to change the lube to Redline and I drove it around for about an hour and it downshifts perfectly.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

When downshifting from 3rd to 2nd the trans grinds. I think the syncro is going bad? If the syncro is the problem does the transmission need to be pulled? Any Idea of the cost? Can anyone recommend a repair shop in Houston, TX?
If it is grinding, then you must not be rev-matching.. (?) - not that you don't have a bad synchro, which you probably do, but if you had been rev-matching by heel/toe or double clutch or whatever, it would have prevented the synchro wear all together, or it will keep it from grinding if it's already bad - PLUS it's a lot more fun and better for your car to rev match when you downshift. No need to shift like your sister in her civic.
Does it only do it from 3rd to 2nd and never any other time? Or does it sometimes grind in other situations?
Could be air in the hydraulics. Maybe try bleeding the clutch.
Do some searching on gear oil. Changing it may put a band aid on it.
At least that's what I'd try before committing to a rebuild.
I don't know anything about this place other than they have a cool looking site.

Good Luck.
Sorry to hear about the issue - but welcome to Rennlist.
I've heard both Protechnik and Viking are very good shops. Any warranty left?? Momentum and Porsche of North Houston have treated me well.
it only happens 3rd to 2nd. I going to have the oil changed in it tomorrow and have them check the clutch. I sounds posible that if the clutch has wear then it's not fully releasing the transmission causing the grinding
I really doubt it's anything but a worn synchro. Typically you'll see the grinding synchros from wear going from 2nd->1st, and/or 3rd->2nd.
Next time you downshift to 2nd, clutch and blip the throttle to get the revs up and it should slide into gear with no grinding at all. This method will give the synchro an easy job and it should be fine. The method to use if you want to take the synchro out of the equation all-together is to double clutch, which will work on a tranny with NO synchros at all. To double clutch: Say you're in 3rd gear - you push the clutch in and put it into nuetral, then release the clutch and blip the throttle to rev it to the rpms it'll be going once you are in 2nd, then push the clutch back in and it'll slide into 2nd like butter.
I'd suggest you practice basic heel/toeing when slowing and downshifting, or at least simple rev matching if you're gonna just downshift and blast off from the same speed. It's a lot of fun, good for the transmission, and it's faster.
btw - don't mean to sound condescending by giving rev-matching lessons.. it's just that a lot of people never think about it, or don't know how. Just trying to help
.
If the clutch is very worn it would slip, and have no problem disengaging.
So that's probably not it.
I'm crossing my fingers for you that it's hydraulic. Although if it were a hydraulic
issue you would expect to have other problems. Like getting into 1st or reverse
while sitting still.
If that's not it, then...
good news....but is it good only with rev-matching? I don't have any issues if I'm not rev matching...it's def. not normal to have the grind if you aren't rev matching....
