Only other thing I can think of is something in side of the center console is disconnected thus telling the car not to start.
Leading evidence: 'Disconnect thus telling the car not' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check connection' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I followed the same instructions from Mike last year when I swapped my friends GT3 seats for the Euro's.

I swapped seats (car has been sitting for over a month now) and had similar symptoms, I am guessing interior lights drained battery.

FYI I used the instructions here on Rennlist by Mike.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello and before the search police chime in please read..
I recently went ahead and switched out the memory power seats for Euro non-power seats and made sure I followed instructions clearly - so no key in the ignition etc.
The following day I went to start the car and nothing hope this helps narrow down things:
Dash lights came on
Windows not working
Tried both keys and the same thing
Since the battery was reading under 12 volts changed it for a new one
Switched the fuse for windows (I believe its 3C)
Still nothing...any help would be appreciated, prior to the seat switch the car was working flawlessly....
Thanks in advance
Something to do with the alarm module under the driver's seat, would be my guess. Check connections to the module and call dealer in the morning. Maybe try a PM to Loren...he is amazing with Porsche computer issues. Sorry I'm not any more help. Good luck.
Mick,
Did you use the write up by on Renntech? When I swapped my seats that's the one I used. No issues. Did you plug in the Airbag/Weight sensor? Maybe that's your issue? Are you getting any CEL? If so I can swing by and scan the code for you.
Pete
Hi there Pete,
No CEL, here is what happen
No crank at all - all the dash lights turn on perfectly
Right now the rear center console is out so I plugged in the window up/down in to see if I could get the passenger side window down to close the door since it's open and the window is stuck at the highest point (therefore not allowing me to close the door)
Sunroof won't work, lights work fine
I'm going to check the connections again under the seat

Thanks
Hmm,
That's odd. I thought it might be an occupancy sensor or something like that. Only other thing I can think of is something in side of the center console is disconnected thus telling the car not to start. I followed the same instructions from Mike last year when I swapped my friends GT3 seats for the Euro's. Did the same process when I took his old seats and fitted them to my car. No issues.
Double check the connection on that seat harness (Occupancy sensor) as a start, if no go, I'd connect everything in the console to eliminate that too. Only other thing I can think of is check pins in seat harness to make sure everything is lined up and good connection. I had an issue with the power seat harness plug where the power wire on the 04 seat was in a different hole than the 99 harness plug in the car. I had to pull the pins and move them to the correct location and everything worked after that.
Let me know if you need help,
I have the same memory seats and did the same gt3 seat replacement... no issues here. Do you have some crazy electrical issues as well as an issue of getting the key out of the ignition?.... if thats the case then the electrical issues seems to point at the ignition switch...
Hey Red,
No issues that I'm aware off. Just seems like the car is immobilized, even the remote lock and unlock doesn't work?
This is what I just removed from the drivers side seat and connected back underneath the new seat but nothing?
This is crazy.
What did you change? Seats and battery. Nothing in the seat assembly should prevent you from activating the starter (am i wrong?). Still, occam's razor says recharge the battery with a battery tender.
Same EXACT thing just happened to me. I swapped seats (car has been sitting for over a month now) and had similar symptoms, I am guessing interior lights drained battery.
-> Purchase Black and Decker battery charger (10/6/2 amp version), charge battery and car starts, idles great now (better than before?)
Well while the battery drained I left the passenger side door open and the window is stuck at the highest point so I can't close the door. Charged battery and still nothing.
Did you change the battery or charge it? When you connect the battery (reading 12.5V or above) you have zero electrical power? Interior lights, dash lights, windows wont' work? What seat cables/wires are connected at this point?
Just the normal hum that you hear just before cranking the car. Do you think it's related to the alarm module. The red flashing light is still there on the stereo?
it is possible that it is immobilized.... why, is the ??? Ive heard of keys going bad... but 2 of them?
Can you at least put the password in the stereo?
If the lights, power windows aren't working, and it won't start, that sounds like a battery issue. After charging the lights should come on at the very least. It's possible that the battery was killed when it lost a charge.
Did you use a trickle charger to charge it? Or a charger/booster? I'd see if it starts or any electronics work with booster cables hooked up to another battery (or booster), or take your battery in to have it load tested.
Managed to put the code in the stereo without issues. Another question did all 996's come with an alarm module M535 box under the drivers seat since I don't see it.
Here is a picture of the alarm module with the wiring plug. If you have the plug and no alarm module, that would tend to indicate that your car had one (since the harness is unique to the options on each car). Both my 99 996s had it.
That module in the picture you have is just the memory module. You don't need to put that back in the car as it only works to actuate your seats (memory) and your passenger mirror if you have that function turned on. I didn't when I swapped my seats. I only plugged in the harness that goes to the powerback and seatbelt sensor.
There should be another harness, that is on the bottom of your replacement seats that has the seat Belt sensor and other wires which I presume are a occupancy sensor. Did you plug that in? If memory serves me correctly, that is connected to a small silverish box under the driver seat (in my case). Lack of communication with that could be causing your issue. I would start there to verify your connections are good with a multi-meter.
UPDATE:
Managed to get the car started!
So stupid me had removed that M535 box and left it on the shelf, put that back in and connected the two plugs to it - one blue and and one black.
Now here come's another issue still no power to the windows however when I click the key button there are two beeps from the horn - ?
If I turn and hold the key to the right the windows roll up and holding to the left they roll down (so in essence I've managed to close the passenger side door now).
Any ideas on the remote?
Thanks fellas everyone has been great with there input!
