Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

For a 99 996 C2 purchased from a non-Porsche import dealer would you suggest an extended warranty of some sort or would you recommend going without it? I am pretty sure Porsche doesn't warranty or PPI cars that the did not sell so I would not want to waste $$. Any ideas of who are the best and most reliable companies or alternatives? Thanks

POST 3Original post

Read the warranty details and clauses and be certain there is no "out" or exclusion that your car would fall under. If not - get the extended warranty ... John D.

POST 4Original post

Also, your warranty is only as good as the company that writes it. Since you're not dealing with PCNA, do some research on them too.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Purchased the warranty back in July 2004. Just got finished putting a new clutch and coolant reservoir tank in the car along with a 45k service and replacing a kinked fuel line and an oil line that was fraying. Cost me $3k from an independent shop in the area. My extended warranty covered NONE of it...had exclusion clauses for everything including a failed muffler that was not do to anything remotely similar to average wear and tear. Shop looked over the whole vehicle and did a warranty check and looked over my warranty and said for what it covered none of it should fail within the next 24 mos left on my warranty or 30k. Since I drive the car less than 5k a year; I deep sixed the warranty and got $1500 of my original $2000 back! I'll use it on a sport exhaust or litronics...ya know something really useful! LOL Rob

POST 6Original post

Extended warranties can be a rip off IMO, a lot of them don't cover things like rubber or plastic components, wear and tear etc. You're betting $$$ that you will have a major (covered) component failure in the next 2-4 years which is unlkely. I'm near 2 years off warranty and no problems. Rob buy yourself a nice GHL exhaust for what they want for a single muffler replacement. Or if you want stock I bet someone up in your neck of the woods would give you their old mufflers for nothing. Heck, pay the shipping and you can have my old set.

POST 7Original post

Non factory extended warranties are useless, you're lucky you got something back at all.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

DJ996 Hey I might take you up on that offer. What type year and type do you have? How much would you want for your old set? What are you using now? UPS ain't that bad as far a shipping goes and I am in San Antonio now on business...hell if I'd had known I'd have brought another suitcase with me to pack em in! Send me an email with details...as the wife might be more agreeable to that option rather than a new GHL or Fabspeed or Dansk set! LOL

POST 9Original post

How would you go about gettting a factory extended warrenty. I have an 02 996 coupe, and was not offered one at time of purchase, is there a way to get it now before my warrenty runs out?

POST 10Original post

Only way is to sell your car to a dealer and buy it back at a higher price as a certified car :-(

POST 11Original post

Lee is right, or if you lease your car with a buy out option they will offer you a cpo warranty. Dougs car is a '00 C2 3.4, should fit fine.
