Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

The styling is a little lost on me but the platform is perfect for a bare bones sportscar/future club racer/budget cup car to replace 996 cup.

Suggestion

IMHO, if Porsche wants to make the 911 more exclusive and/or GT, they could keep the GT1-based engines in the 911 (like the TT and GT2/GT3) while using the M96-based engines in the Boxster/Cayman if that saves positioning face.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

36 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Like it. The "gayman" errr...Cayman looks great. Chad

POST 2Original post

That must be the S, with the yellow calipers. Not sure about that round light housing for the parking lights. Looks cheap and fake. Otherwise, looks just like a 911, looking great.

POST 3Original post

Looks like they forgot to cut away the flash from the model car kit. Must be the Revell option.

POST 4Original post

I agree, the car looks over-styled. At least Porsche didn't jump the shark like the Bangle BMWs and the latest Audi "Big Schoz" look. The Cayman promises to be a great car and I eagerly anticipate it. It will be interesting to see exactly how the Cayman is positioned and received in the marketplace. Will it push the 911 into a role as a GT? Will it be the club racer's car of choice? Will it just be a Boxster with roof? The possibilities are enticing.

POST 5Original post

I love this car! The styling is a little lost on me but the platform is perfect for a bare bones sportscar/future club racer/budget cup car to replace 996 cup. As I'm sure most know, the 997 cup has been priced out of most club racers budget. Porsche, please build it! Make it 2800 lbs. with a 3.6L x51 and I promise you at least one sale. Rennlisters, please don't respond telling me Porsche will never release a Caymen that out performs the 997. I'm dreaming here. Don't ruin it for me. Jim

POST 6Original post

Put the TPC s/c on that thing and look out!!!!!

POST 7Original post

Somewhere I read someone was putting a 3.8L into a 987. This is what the Cayman S should have and, if not, I'm sure some people will try. The 3.4L would be good for the base to justify how it costs more and not less than the Boxster (which I'm reasonably sure is more expensive to produce, being a convertible). IMHO, if Porsche wants to make the 911 more exclusive and/or GT, they could keep the GT1-based engines in the 911 (like the TT and GT2/GT3) while using the M96-based engines in the Boxster/Cayman if that saves positioning face. I'm with JimB in thinking the Cayman will be my next car if they can keep the weight down, put in some real horsepower, and offer a highly tuneable/adjustable suspension. A rock-solid seam-welded body would really put the icing on the cake, but I'm not sure how much this adds in cost.

POST 8Original post

looks good in the pic, love the red on silver color combo..... any other angles available?

POST 9Original post

Try this... http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php...gonew=1#UNREAD

POST 10Original post

rear roof to fender line looks loke a Chrysler Crossfire.

POST 11Original post

Looks kinda gay to me....chic car forsure.....sorry for be politically incorrect....

POST 12Original post

If I get a two seat porsche it will be a GT3. Has promise as a future race car though, as I always liked the 3.4 motor over the 3.6 anyway.

POST 13Original post

Oh the memories!!! Revell, Testor's cement...and my nose 'glued' to my work table!

POST 14Original post

Looks like they tried to overdo it -- heaven forbid if they marginalize the 996/997 performance advantage. If they do, I'll never forgive them.

POST 15Original post

c pillar was the best line of the car and this rendition ruins the look in previous photos. Front bumper intake is pure ugly with fog lights - nothing that can't be fixed with a new aftermarket bumper. The rear side intakes look ugly. This can't be the real car. It's uglier than what we've seen before and it looks worse than a Boxter with fix roof.

POST 16Original post

Fugly, looks like a crossbreed between the Audi TT and a Chrysler Crossfire! Ciao, Johannes E.

POST 17Original post

Here is more info just released by Porsche, including more pics: http://www.autoblog.com/entry/1234000067044280/

POST 18Original post

Y'now...Not particularly to my taste, but I am glad it is different enough not to be mistaken for a 911.

POST 19Original post

I dont get this car. Why didnt they just make a Boxster coupe?

POST 20Original post

Maybe it would be too oxymoronic. Boxster = Boxer (engine ) + Roadster. Boxster Coupe = Boxer Roadster Coupe

POST 21Original post

They did. Cayman = Boxster Coupe. Nothing more, nothing less.

POST 22Original post

love the mid-engined/lightweight concept but is waaaay too busy. too stylized and the proportions are weird.

POST 23Original post

Should have kept the 987 Boxster styling but with a coupe roof and simply called the car Boxster Coupe or GTS! Ciao, Johannes E.

POST 24Original post

The gap between a Boxster S and a basic Carrera just doesnt seem worthy of another model. I think a hi-end Boxster (GT, 4S, Turbo, whatever... ) would have made more sense.

POST 25Original post

Front end looks like a mazda with those little bitty parking lights. Is this the production model or a sneak peek?

POST 26Original post

That's the production model. Porsche finally has the Cayman website populated with photos, information, ect. http://ws.us.porsche.com/cayman/pcna.asp?

POST 28Original post

Stock-for-stock, looks better than any non-widebody 996. Don't hate, appreciate. It's going to flat out drive better than any of the 996s save for the special ones. But then, I think even those will be threatened. Time will tell and looks like we won't have to wait too much longer.

POST 29Original post

I, for one, am waiting to see how it looks in person... I like it though. This could get interesting with some simple mods. I would like to hear a drivers comparison vs. a 996

POST 30Original post

From the side view it looks like a audi TT rear with 997 front. What can Porsche think of next? That thing looks hideous...

POST 31Original post

with the full on side shot from PCNA, the cayman's proportions look weird but seeing this picture (has some depth) it looks better, beefier. i agree with most that the fog light gotta go.

POST 33Original post

It actually looks pretty good, and with a 3.4, hmmmm.

POST 34Original post

The green house looks like a mess from the photos. I hope it looks better in the flesh.

POST 35Original post

I think it looks pretty cool butI dont get the marketing? I could understand it if it cost less than the Boxster but it costs more. Given the choice I would buy a Boxster S and put the extra money into suspension and engine mods. Barry

POST 36Original post

As would I. If I wanted a 2-seat Porsche that costs less than a 911, then it's gotta be a convertible!
