Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

You will be amazed by the amount of junk the clay bar pulls out of a "clean" (just washed) car.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Guys,
I just picked up my 50th birthday present to myself, a 1999 996 C4.
I have 3 questions:
There are alot of scratches and marks in the paint (hood and front fenders)t, I just did 2 coats of Zaino, the good parts look great, any advice on a treatment to help with scratches and blemishes?
The A/C compressor cuts in and out. Sometimes after starting there is no cold air and almost no volume. If I turn off the compressor the air flow increases. If I wait a while everything eventually works OK. I looked in the manual and it says the compressor can cut out temporarily under heavy load, but this happens after start up.Is there a fault somehere?
Anbyone have any experience in upgrading the speakers? I have the Hi-Fi system so I am looking for something that would fit the existing locations.
Thanks. I will be an active member of the forum(pic attached)

Nice looking machine. Happy Birthday...
Re: scratches...Tim's link is a good one, just make sure whatever you do, go lightly to remove them. If you can't get them out to your satisfaction, spend a few bucks at a reputable body shop to do it for you.
Thnaks for the help guys.
The picture is from the original ad for the car, I'll take my own digital photos tomorrow, it should sparkle after the Zaino.
Any help with the A/C issue?
Happy birthday and congratulations.
Which Zaino product are you using? Did you do the full detail -- wash with Dawn, claybar, etc.? I do the full detail twice a year and after 2 or 3 coats of the Z5 Swirl Remover (with accelerator) all the swirl marks are gone. Only after the swirl marks are gone do I switch to the Z2 Polish. If the scratches in your car a deeper then you should get a professional to take care of them.
Rob's stereo upgrade thread is good. I think a lot of us went with Focal speakers and Audison amps based on recommendations from Rod @ CarAudioInnovations.com. I went with the Alpine CDA 9855 head unit with the iPod adapter and XM Satellite Radio adapter. Good luck and happy motoring.
One last thing, with regard to the AC not coming on right away...whenever you have the AC on Auto and the ambient temperature is too hot, the fan will not come on right away until the condensor cools down. That is so that the fan doesn't blow hot air into the cabin. Once the condensor cools down the fan comes on. You can override this by manually cranking up the fan. The same thing happens when you have the heater in Auto and it is too cold -- the fan will not come on until the heater warms up.
I used Dawn but not the claybar. Z5 then 2 coats of Z2. Z6 for touch ups.
Does the claybar make a big difference?
I'll see tomorrow if your explanation of the a/c is what I have been experiencing. Although I think it has happened when not on auto.
Thanks very much.
Try putting on a couple more coats of Z5 Swirl Remover to see if that helps. If not, you can try buffing it out yourself or getting a professional to do it.
Happy birthday and congratz!
You will become real intimate with your car if you use the claybar. You have to rub it into the paint, then feel the results in that area and move on.
Unbelievable how much invisible grime attaches to your paint.

I upgraded my 99 in 99 to the Porsche High Performance Audio System. I'm very happy with it.
It uses same Radio CD player but new amp in trunk. New speakers and woofers in doors.
Glad to see a happy new owner.
I've been quite happy with my 99 C4.
I hardly played the radio the first year as it distracts from the tactile experience. The AC does kick out under heavy throttle to get more power to the wheels. After hours of driving my AC seems to lose capacity, but after a short time switched off, it seems to come back fine. The AC in most new cars is quite sophisticated and only operates the fan when required.
Sounds like the main thing you need is more time at the wheel!
