My grandfather once said that if you can't afford the repair bills or the gas on YOUR car then you can't afford to own it...which is true.

I was like wow I am glad I bought my own pads and just paid labor...to which he responded "if you think you got off easy guess what the cost is per wheel to change pads on that McLauren....about $2500-4000 per axel if you include rotors!" Labor included of course.

Your friend will be using those same words when he gets the maintenance bills.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My Friend just picked up his F430 yesterday, He quickly called me to test drive the car (I let him use my Targa at times) All I can say is WOW!, DAM! word seem to escape me, He ordered it with a 6 speed manual. What a looker, I love My P-Car, but this baby is on a completely different playing field. The handling, braking and engine sound, reminded me of my brothers GSRX Super Bike. Now I see the car daily, It puts a smile on my face, I know I will be able to borrow it, from time to time. I promised myself, the only car I would get other than a Porsche is a Ferrari, looking forward to my retirement.
Maybe Holger his friend is on the other side of rich-like extremely rich so maintenace costs is like a drop to him : ). I wish I was like that. Regards. Mike
It's the one single reason I don't own a Modena, the car is a money pit. I've had my C4S Cab for a year and a half and I'm taking in to the dealer for the first time on Thursday... the passenger side headlight blew out.
But I have to say the 360 and the 430 are some of the most beautiful cars every produced, period.
Because unless you are unconscionably wealthy, you can't bear to drive it or park it anywhere. For daily driving, required wealth increases with the cube of the price of the car.
Figure this...the last time I saw how much it was to perform a R&R on the waterpump of an '80-85 308 GTS was approx. $3800. Why? You have to drop the engine to do it.
Gawd...I love German engineers.

LOL. How true. I have a friend who works at Ferrari of Washington and I decided to pay him a visit at his Dealership. They had an '01 360 Spider that I fell in love with. My friend talked me out of making an offer by telling me what I could expect to pay in maintenance. After hearing what the costs would be, the words wow, dam did cross my mind. By comparison Porsche maintenance costs are nominal. On the other hand if I had an annual salary of $500K+, I guess I wouldn't be intimidated by a $10K routine maintenance fee.
Are the maintenance costs that bad for the 360 & 430? I had heard that they, at least the 360 w/ no info on the 430, were much better than the 355. Guess that's just relative?
It's my understanding that it's more bearable now because they do not have to drop the engine to do maintenance on the car now (like they used to with the 355 and prior) but I'm not 100% sure.
I also have a friend who got his F430 in the past two weeks here in LA. It is incredible ..
He is selling his GT2 right now to make room for it in the garage.
Per 360 maintenance, I have been told by an owner that the general maintenance is still high, but the major servicing is not as bad. As Riad noted, they can now access the belts from behind the seats in the 360, and do not need to drop the engine. However Ferrari still has the same policy with parts, turning simple thinks like a malfunctioning dash into a several $K service/fix.
NEGATIVE ! I would drive that bay every DAM day If I could - Flash is relative my brother. Plus in Black It does not look so loud. But I can't stop looking at that baby.
What a bunch of haters some of you are. The strongest point you bring up is the higher maintenance costs on the Ferrari as if that's going to be a factor in the jaw-dropping good looks and the blinding performance figures of the F430?
If you're spending that much money on a car, maintenance bills should be the last thing to worry about. Pls. Porsche might not have a substitute, but there sure is one for a Ferrari. Sex.
Wow...sounds like you need a trust fund just for the Ferrari to pay for mantenance...let alone gas and replacement parts. I think I read somewhere that a replacement clutch on the dang thing is like $15k...that's what my nephew pays in tuition to UNC annually almost for christ's sake. I was in a M-Benz dealership recently around Xmas time getting the brakes done on my wife's ML and they had a SLK McLaren in there in the show room. Apparently the guy who was buyin it had his financing fall through (my question is who finances a $400k sports car 1st of all and second if he has to do that what is he doing even trying to own one?) I spoke to one of the service managers about our SUV and how much it would be and it was a nominal $200 charge. I was like wow I am glad I bought my own pads and just paid labor...to which he responded "if you think you got off easy guess what the cost is per wheel to change pads on that McLauren....about $2500-4000 per axel if you include rotors!" Labor included of course. So while the 430 and 360 definately are breathtaking...so are the bills! I'll keep my 996 and be happy...leave the trust funds for my kids...not my car!
LOL
You gotta pay to play...don't get me wrong. My grandfather once said that if you can't afford the repair bills or the gas on YOUR car then you can't afford to own it...which is true. But hey why give away your hard earned money? DIY is definately a word ALL car owners should learn...except Ferrari owners I think! LOL
Tell your friend to enjoy the 430 and I'll look for him in MY rear view mirror! <as I am going the other way down the street that is! LOL>
