This is not a probability of success.

Sure, many have fitted mesh to keep trash out of the duct and while this may keep out the leaves and larger pieces of trash smaller stuff still makes it through.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

As my dad would often say, there is no such thing as a dumb question, just dumb people! With that said, I am driving a 2002 C4 Cab and have a question regaring the front bumber. Since there is no mesh screen of any type in the front bumber, all of leaves from the road go right in and lay up against the two radiators and after a while, there's a lot of crap in there and i am forced to go in there and clean it out. Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket product for this or if there is a reason that Porsche chose not to screen this area? I have included a pic of the area I am talking about although i am not sure its going to help much. Thanks.

POST 2Original post

There are quite a few mesh DIY threads out there... Example: http://www.witzendcs.co.uk/tec_mesh_grilles.pdf http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic/15145-mesh-screen-for-front-bumper-grilles You might want to try ebay.

Periodically removing the front bumper cover and unbolting and swinging the A/C condensors out of the way to gain access to the considerable amount of trash that can and does collect ahead of the A/C condensors and between the condensor and radiator is a water cooled Porsche fact of life. My guess as to why Porsche decided to not erect a finer screen at the duct openings is a two parter...1) A mesh fine enough to filter out the trash acts as a barrier to the flow of air into the duct and through the condensor and radiator. Might add these already represent a considerable barrier and above a certain speed essentially act to block the flow of air which is why there is a fan behind each radiator. With a finer mesh the fan may need to be larger or run faster. 2) The opening of the duct is small. Therefore a larger piece of trash could block air flow into the opening and in the worst case completely block air flow. The thinking must be the lesser of the two evils is to allow this piece of trash to enter the open duct where of course it will stick to the condensor. While this of course blocks some air flow through the condensor and radiator the surface area of the condensor (and radiator) is quite large, much larger than the duct opening, and that the duct remains clear of blockage means that air can still enter the opening and flow through the condensor and radiator. Sure, many have fitted mesh to keep trash out of the duct and while this may keep out the leaves and larger pieces of trash smaller stuff still makes it through. The times I've cleaned these ducts out a considerable amount of fine particulate matter (sand, gravel, and such) makes up the trash that I remove from these areas. So the presence of the mesh at the duct opening probably doesn't really prevent all the trash from getting into the duct it just provides a false sense of security that all of the trash is not getting into the duct. Sincerely, Macster.
