I'm not so much worried about being ripped off by dealer repair costs (this one is only about $200 to repair).

Ya, the ignition parts are crap but why would it cost less to repair than a coolant bottle?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Over the weekend, I had an ignition problem on my car. Just as I found the *perfect*, isolated, "right-in-front" parking spot at my destination, I somehow was able to remove my key from the ignition with it still in the ON position. This results in the bonehead driver not being able to re-insert the key in the car because some small interior piece of the ignition has slid in front of the inigition insertion point so that it's impossible to re-insert the key. This ended up with my car on a flatbed and a trip to the dealer. I'm not so much worried about being ripped off by dealer repair costs (this one is only about $200 to repair). The service rep told me that there are some electronics behind the ignition that are the culprit and needed to be replaced (ie not the entire ignition). I wish to learn. Oh P-car Oracles, can someone please explain this part of the ignition and possibly speculate on how I broke it? Thanks.

POST 2Original post

These ignition are shared w VW and Audi I think. No wonder they are crap! There are 2-3 newer versions of the ignition each slightly better in design and reliability.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ya, the ignition parts are crap but why would it cost less to repair than a coolant bottle? Yikes, maybe *that's* why they're crap?
