Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Porsche note: Sold the 996 last week. It's okay. I made a decision to go after a fully prepped track toy. Lately, I have been really pushing my levels at the track. And to continue doing this, I need the appropriate tool. In the meantime, meet my new company car. A new 2008 VW GTI four door. Man, this thing is a hoot to drive. Fun, functional and gets 22mpg around town to boot. Options: SAT radio Sunroof Leather interior DSG Trans yada, yada, yada...

POST 2Original post

Chad, good choice there! When I sold my 951 earlier this year, I seriously considered a GTI or GLI...but, for a DD I didn't want to come out of pocket more than $10k, so I got an Infiniti I35. I was beyond impressed with the VW, it felt every bit the car as my wifes Benz C350 (not quite as fast), but, funny thing happened the other day, she started hinting getting rid of the Benz, so we may have a VW in the mix soon too! What's the build date of your car? The newer (better IMO) TSI version of the 2.0 is in the newer 08's. The DSG in the VW blows the ***** off our neighbors Cambiocorsa - awesome trans.

POST 3Original post

I love the DSG on those. Add a little chip for some more forward motivation. These and the new turbo minis are a hoot to drive.

Early 2008 build. And you're right, the TSI 2.0 is a great engine. Virtually no turbo lag at all. Overall, I am really liking this car. Fun fun... C.

POST 5Original post

Congrats. Love mine as well. Same as yours except I kept the 17" Denvers.

A good friend and car guy of mine just bought one and I didnt think much of it untill I drove it- neat car!

POST 7Original post

Congrats Chad, great choice. Back in the day, I got a new white '83 GTI , great little car. Here's my A3 version of your car, also DSG of course, it's been perfect for about 18mos and almost 20k miles (with a bunch of those miles near redline).

POST 8Original post

Congrats Chad! I was behind a silver one this morning.

POST 10Original post

Great choice. I bought my son an '08 6 speed GTi for his 16th birthday in May. He and I had a deal that if his grades and attitude were great, he could get a new car. I bought it two months before his birthday so he could learn the 6 speed. I drove it downtown to the office everyday and loved it. What great steering, handling and gearbox. The Top Gear review explains it well. Jeremy Clarkson loved it. Super choice. He is off to Embry Riddle for a week class next week, so guess what I am driving next week?

POST 11Original post

Congrats on a nice ride. A chip can do wonders.

POST 12Original post

Those cars are awesome, and very cheap to make fast

POST 13Original post

I was hoping that I would find this car when I opened this thread. Excellent choice.

Where is the rest of the car? Oh yeah, I forgot it didn't have an engine back there.

Maybe you're thinking of that W12 monster that was on Top Gear?

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks all...Like I said, for a DD car, it is a complete hoot to drive. I am loving it. I can completely see why all the Auto rags out there are raving about it. In the meantime, I am hunting for a 944S2. Mileage under 120K preferred. This is the start to my full prepped track car. C.

Awesome! When you get into mods, go talk to my buddy Richard Barker at OEM Plus http://oempl.us/ No financial link, but I do provide a lot of his product photography, and I know he has access to a whole load of European items that are not generally available in the US VW Market.
