Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My C4S coupe is sending vibration through the steering wheel at 70MPH. Because my drive is short to work (2 miles each way), I rarely get above 35 MPH. I had my winters on in 18" w/Pirelli 240; I've had 19" 997 Turbo Wheels w/Spacers, Bridgestone RE050; I went back to winters with spacers; Now I scrapped the spacers and went with 996 GT2 wheels, Pilot Sports. The vibration was there in every scenario. I initially thought it was a wheel balance issue and then I thought it might be the spacers but now I think it might be something else. Any thoughts?

POST 2Original post

i had that happen for me years ago in a old dodge daytona. it ended up being a front-end suspension replacement. vibration happened only at 45-50 mph. it was pretty violent shudder in the steering wheel. car didn't pull or anything, just the vibration. don't know if what you're experiencing is caused by a similar issue.

POST 4Original post

do you get loud road noise? And it changes during cornering? Might be your wheel bearings

My bet is on the wheel balance. When was the last time the GT2 wheels were balanced? If recently, I would have the front's rebalanced at another shop - without spacers. -td

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The bizarre thing is that the 19" and the GT2 wheels have all had the tires mounted and balanced just before I put them on my car. I would think bent wheels or flat spot but it's the same vibration on every set of wheels. So now I will check the wheel bearing and the front suspension components.
