My crate motor is using a little oil and the dealer said this was normal. He said to just top it off when it gets a little low with 5w 40. But then he also said 0w 40 would work as well. Anyone know about this? Can you use either weight/ mix weights?? The only 5w 40 I can find is for deisels. As always, thanks!

At the risk of starting an oil flaming war... 5w40 seems to be available outside of the US market - within the US 0W40 seems to be the standard. I've always used 0W40.

Walmart, PepBoys. 0W-40 is getting easier to get, and I can now find it almost in any large chain store. And yes, you can top it off with the 0W-40, then later replace the whole deal with it.

I found 2 cases of 0w-40M1 at Walmart marked "old stock" in a special discount area:..It was $28 a case. Thinking I could get the individual qts at the same price, I bought them out (wow- another 6 qts), but was charged $5.79 ea...couldn't get them to budge...the cases were old stock, the qts weren't...same exact bottle/part number!

I would not put anything but 0w40, I tried 15 as in manual and the car didn't like it. However, it could be from infrequent use...... and that oil. Had it changed and all was good!
