I have five years of insurance for tire failure so I guess I will at least get one replacement tire out of them, I don't think they will replace both rears to even up the wear level.

Maybe my other rear tire will run over a nail in the near future and need replaced?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I hit a pothole last night at about 15 mph and it cut the bead on my rear PS2 295/30 tire. I have a stock 2004 Arctic Silver Targa with OEM 18" Turbo Twists. I am looking for some opinions on a few questions: 1. Should I stay with 18" or increase to 19"? (ride quality, safety, look, availability, etc) 2. I really like the look of black wheels (maybe even with the red rim line) but I don't know if this is considered too outlandish on my car. What are your opinions? 3. Should I stick with PS2s or try some other tire? I like to drive spirited twisties at around 40-50 mph. Otherwise just typical city/highway driving. Thanks for any input.

POST 2Original post

If you track your car or are more interested in performance vs looks, then stick to your 18". 19" set-up will normally weigh more. 18" = less unsprung weight.

POST 3Original post

Check out Ruuscan's wheels for sale here- they look very nice and he's got them well priced. I'd have bought them myself if I had slightly different circumstances.

POST 4Original post

19s bend more easily, stick with the 18s if potholes are part of reality where you drive most often. I personally do not like the look of black wheels on a silver car, but if you really like them then do it.

POST 5Original post

Go with the black wheels...they will look good, I think aluminum lip would look better than red but either way would be nice

POST 6Original post

19s are the way to go - update the look of the car nicely, and drive's great

Sorry, but I think I got lost -> can you please clarify for the masses of inquiring minds 1) you have a flat tire so you "need" new rims, or 2) you have a bent rim (and flat tire) so need at least 1 new rim, and you might as well get 4. As for tires: lots of tires will be fine for average/spirited driving. And PS2's are fine for beginning-intermediate track use. Personally, for the price and type of driving you describe, I would save the money you would spend on PS2, and get a cheaper tire. Sumitomo and Yokohama come to mind. -td -> if I have a flat, I might "need" a super charger.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the responses. My predicament is more like, "if I have a flat, I might need a super charger." All four of my rims are fine. The bead of the tire was "cut" by the impact with the pothole so I only really need 1 tire. Although I don't really like the idea of different levels of wear on my rear tires. The tires are relatively new, with at least 50% of tread remaining. Since I posted, I pulled out my paperwork from the dealer. I have five years of insurance for tire failure so I guess I will at least get one replacement tire out of them, I don't think they will replace both rears to even up the wear level. Maybe my other rear tire will run over a nail in the near future and need replaced?
