Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Does it make sense to let it run for 10-20 minutes on occasion or would that do more harm than good?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So, I parked my '04 shortly before Christmas. Does it make sense to let it run for 10-20 minutes on occasion or would that do more harm than good? Too much salt and grime on the streets to take it for a spin...but not really ready for a dead battery come March either. Comments? TIA!

POST 2Original post

Best would be a trickle-charger to keep the battery topped up. I removed the batteries from the 2 I'm not driving this winter, but wouldn't want to lose my settings in one of the newer cars with all those computers... Emanuel

POST 3Original post

I agree with Emanuel but use a battery maintainer instead of a trickle charger. A trickle charger may overcharge your battery and damage it. A battery maintainer will shut off once the battery is fully charged and resume recharging when there is a drain in the battery.

POST 4Original post

I start it every 2 weeks and let it run for a little. I read somewhere that as the car sits, the oil makes its way into the pan expsoing the metal surfaces inside the engine. With those surfaces expsoed there is a chance that the metal may corrode or something. I figure if I start her up every couple weeks and let her idle, the battery will recharge and the oil will flow. My buddy let his Z sit one winter and a family of mice made a nest inside his exhaust screwing it up pretty good. I figure starting up will take care of a lot of concerns. Bobby
