I am now wondering if the one week is to allow them to obtain a rebuilt trans so they can swap it out, or if they will actually repair my existing trans.

I got the bearings on the pulleys for the serpetine belt relaced plus a new altenator before they finally figured out that it was the clutchs on the limited slip.

So, if they actually repair the existing transmissions these days, then I think I need to select another Porsche dealer in the area.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am looking for some input/advice for my 04 996C2. I am in Allentown Pa, the car is CPO and after some struggle with the selling Porsche dealer they finally admitted the car has a bad 4th gear synchro. They will repair under warranty. They keep telling me to give them one weeks notice to schedule the repair. I am now wondering if the one week is to allow them to obtain a rebuilt trans so they can swap it out, or if they will actually repair my existing trans. The reason I am concerned is that I have had nothing but bad experience with their one and only Porsche Tech/mechanic. Misdiagnosed the synchro as a shifter and didn't let up until the shifter was replaced and the problem didn't go away, this was after a test drive by the tech where he duplicated the grinding into 4th, but still took the service manager to finally diagnose it as the synchro. The same tech underinflated my tires, I had to actually bring in the TSB from Porsche to show him the correct inflation pressures. Pressures which many of you on this board knew, but the "Tech" didn't. The same Tech states that my sinking clutch pedal while creeping in traffic is normal and that I need to shift to neutral and fully disengage the clutch to re-charge the clutch slave. (I don't buy that explanation) So, if they actually repair the existing transmissions these days, then I think I need to select another Porsche dealer in the area. I am considering giving Brandywine Porsche a try. Any thoughts or suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks

How can they certify a car that has a bleeding off clutch system? I would just walk.

https://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum/394820-new-transmission-at-92-000-miles.html You might want to see how another dealer handled my transmission problem. My transmission was replaced. It did take a week or so to get the new transmission over from Germany once they figured out what the root cause was. Porsche originally wanted them to rebuild it, but the service manager convinced them it was better to replace. It did take a couple of trys though to find my problem which was a noise issue, but I am not complaining. I got the bearings on the pulleys for the serpetine belt relaced plus a new altenator before they finally figured out that it was the clutchs on the limited slip. I suppose I could complain that they didn't get it right immediately, but they kept me informed every step of the way and even told me they were guessing. Figuring out noises is not always so easy. I would be wary though of a dealership where you have no confidence in their mechanics. It is a common problem for many dealerships to hang on to the really good mechanics. I know my dealership wanted nothing to do with trying to rebuild the transmission. Much safer to just pop in a remanufactured one from the factory and in my case it was just about the same money.

I believe Powerhaus II is rebuilding 996 trans.
