Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've noticed that occasionally when I turn off the ignition and remove the key that my clock, odometer, and digital speedometer stay on. I've also been having some problem recently with my ignition where I really have to fiddle with it to start the car (not the starter). I'm assuming these are connected. Should I just replace the ignition? Thanks

POST 2Original post

Yes, time to replace the ignition switch before you can start or stop the car. Here is a link to a DIY if you are interested... http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=493

This part is normal, though, isn't it? Pretty sure mine does this, too, but the ignition works fine.

POST 4Original post

It can be, but he is also having trouble getting the car to start with the key - having to jiggle the key is a sure sign the switch is about to go as well as other electronic anomalies.

POST 5Original post

Thanks, Loren. You're an inestimable asset around here.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Loren, if I understand you correctly from the Renntech link, the problem is not where my key goes in but the other end of the whole unit. That is where the ignition switch goes. Is this correct. Thanks

To answer your question yes the part that needs to be replaced is plugged into the back of the lock cylinder. The job is not that hard I have done it more times then I like to count on my Boxster.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Joel and Loren. I wanted to make sure of that before I bought the part and tried to install it.
