Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Though I am using an OEM battery tender when the car is not in-used during the week, to keep the battery fresh and ready.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sitting at my indy's, killing time. I'm getting a much heavier duty battery put in, but also had them track down the reason for them constantly dying (the car has had seven batteries since new, according to service records). Turns out to be the driver's power seat/memory module holding a lot of amperage. (How this eluded the dealer I will never know...). Not sure what the fix is yet, but I thought I'd pass it on in case anyone finds it a useful clue. Also looking at a little mod that improves throttle response, kind of like BMW's Sport Mode. Tempted. More later...

POST 2Original post

Several posts seem to indicate that our 996's eat batteries.Maybe they all share the smae 'drain' ie. alarm systems, seat modules(yours) etc. Hope it solves your problem Bruce.

POST 3Original post

These cars don't eat batteries. I got almost 6 years out of my first one. You car should draw 40-60 ma at rest - if it is drawing more then you have a drain.

Correct. Although I'd have to say that it seems like these little devils get more than their share of mysterious 'drains'. Alas, it wasn't as simple as the power seat module. There was a big draw there, but they found a bigger one to do with the ignition switch. At two hours, I had to roll, so I'm going to leave the car with them for a couple of days next month to solve it once and for all. Some folks probably think I'm nuts to pay by the hour for this, but my deal with myself is that this car is a true daily driver. I've got to be able to count on it to start.

POST 6Original post

I had my 996 for over 2.5 years and never replaced the battery.

POST 7Original post

Same here, mine is getting up to 3 yrs now and still going strong (I hope ). Though I am using an OEM battery tender when the car is not in-used during the week, to keep the battery fresh and ready.

POST 8Original post

Go to the 964 board and see the same posts about dead batteries. Common in a lot of Pcars as my 928 would kill the battery just sitting for a week while I would be gone.
