I would like to see one of those supercharged "more hp" cars running low 12s on the 1/4 mile.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

16 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

There is a theft recovery GT3 available. It has 2000 miles Proposal: Offer $55k cash for it (The buy it now price is 65k). Sell your 3.6 engine and transmission for $18k to any 99-00 Carrera owner, Boxster, Boxster S owner looking for an upgrade. Sell the complete brake system to a Boxster owner $2k. Sell me the PCCB brake system for $3k. I will give you back my 3000 miles GT3 brake system. Sell GT3 leather seats, leather interior pieces, thicker steering wheel, console, wheels and tires, xenon lights, bumpers, rocker panels etc... $20k. With $12k plus labor you get a bulletproof 380Hp dry sump engine, GT3 transmission, GT3 6 calipers front and 4 calipers rear brake system, GT3 coilover suspension and sway bars. All these cheaper than the X51 option.

POST 3Original post

The only fault in the logic I see is that I can trade in my 00 C2 cab for an 02 C2 cab for about $20K. Why swap engine and tranny for $18K?

POST 4Original post

Bucket, I think the idea is that you get a better engine (no RMS) and more HP than an '02. A few flaws tho: - a 3.6 is a major PITA to fit into a pre-'02 car, so it maybe harder to sell. - Once all this work is done, warranty is out the window - for less than 12k installed you can supercharge your car and get more hp

POST 5Original post

Does anyone know how easily the GT-3 motor will transfer over to a 996 c-2 body?

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The GT3 motor and transmission is a direct swap on any 996. The wiring harness is compatible with 2002+ models not the previous ones. Even to install a clutch, Porsche technicians take the engine out (it's easier to work with these cars that way). That way they can apply the right torque to all the bolts. Bucket_hat_Loren: Your current car has 300Hp. The 02+ 3.6 has 315Hp. The 02+ with the $14k X51 option has 345Hp. I'm telling you that a GT3 engine has over 400Hp, and you get the stronger transmission, you get a better brake system than the 911Turbo, and the coilover suspension and sway bars and wider ligther wheels.... The GT3 engine is the same engine used in the race GT3 Cup car which is 100% different than the regular RMS 3.4/3.6 and the newer 3.8 on the 997. 01 C4 Cab NYC: Honestly, I don't know how reliable is a RMS motor with a supercharger. I would like to see one of those supercharged "more hp" cars running low 12s on the 1/4 mile. Even going with the supercharger, you're missing the brake system, the suspension and the transmission ($$$). I'm telling you friends, with less than 600 GT3s in US, the chances to get this engine is very difficult. If I have a 02+ 996 I will buy this car right away. It's too late for me because I'm already engaged to my beloved dark grey car.

POST 8Original post

NJ, I like the way you think but there are some problems with your numbers. First, you aren't going to get $18k for a 3.6L and trans. You can buy new ones for less than that. Second, you can't put a 3.6L in a Boxster or a 3.4 996. The 3.6 computer won't work in those cars due to security system changes and the 3.4L computer won't work with the 3.6L. I've made this swap work in a club racer but forget it for street use. Next, if a GT3 is messed up enough that it can be had for 1/2 price, I have a hard time believing that all the parts you plan to sell are in one piece. If they were, why wouldn't you just fix the GT3? Sounds like fun though. Jim

POST 9Original post

NJ, Less say you could part out the extras on the car for 30k, that means its costing 25k plus installation, etc, to up the HP to 380, tq 285. The supercharger gets 420hp/340tq, its 11k installed, for another couple of grand you can upgrade to PSS9 and Big Red Brembos, that'll leave ya 8 - 10 k left over....

>>NJ, I like the way you think but there are some problems with your numbers. First, you aren't going to get $18k for a 3.6L and trans. You can buy new ones for less than that.<< My point exactly. I'm not asking about the GT-3 engine, I'm asking why would I, as an 00 owner, want to buy a standard 02 + tranny engine (which you are suggesting would be an upgrade and purchased for $18K) from the guy who bought the trashed GT-3. Doesn't make sense.

POST 11Original post

if someone wants to sell a 3.6l let me know but just to warn you i won't pay anywhere close to 18k for it. i just received word my 3.4l needs replacing and it will cost $12k from the dealer.

POST 12Original post

What happened to your 3.4 litre engine that it needs to be replaced? What was the mileage?

POST 13Original post

On a 2000, Porsche should be picking up the tab. The car can't be long out of warranty (unless there are unusual circumstances here). With regard to the stolen GT3, I love the idea of putting the engine in my Boxster S - apparently it's not possible? (people have put 3.6L 996 engine into the 986 though)

POST 14Original post

12K for a 3.4?My Dealer said the other day that TOPS for a 3.6 is 8K plus 10 hours labor for installation!

POST 15Original post

What happened to your 3.4 litre engine that it needs to be replaced? What was the mileage? My car is a 2000 with 32k miles. Apparently the crankshaft pulley tip cracked and cannot be fixed according to the dealer. They recommended to swap it since we will need to rebuild the engine to fix that portion of the crankshaft that extends from inside the motor. I find this to be bs. because the engine runs perfectly fine, the drive belt just cannot be connected because the pulley is sheered off. I think the engine can be rebuilt if they just put a new crankshaft inside. Anyone have an engine to sell me or can anyone recommend me to a master mechanic that has opened a 996 motor?

POST 16Original post

tvth, is your dealer offering a used motor? Can you tell me where your dealer is?
