Read evidence and context

Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Stupid question, I think. Can't find it in archive. When checking oil, do you push dipstick all the way until it locks with the two yellow prongs, or do you push it till it stops but the prongs don't go over the lips of the tube? There seems to be about a 1/2 litre difference. Also, do you stop engine at operating temp and wait a few minutes, or do you check it when engine is cold and all the oil has settled? Thank you

POST 2Original post

I check it cold David, on a level surface of course. And I have always made sure the dip stick was all the way in..... (that does not sound right).

POST 3Original post

My bride says the dipstick is in when I'm driving. ;-)

POST 4Original post

You should check when the engine is at operating temp (just like it says in the owners manual!!!), and the dip stick is pushed all the way in. Better yet--use the electronic measurement in the instrument cluster.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks. Also, is there supposed to be a lip or funnel type filler aid that can be pulled out of the filler neck, or is the manual referring to the neck itself that can be pulled up out the clips to aid in refilling? Thanks again

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Anyone know if there is supposed to be a dliding funnel on the 996? Thanks

POST 8Original post

The oil filler neck is held to the airbox with a spring clip. Just pull it up and off of the airbox to get a better angle to add the oil. There is not a funnel that pulls out of the neck.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post
