the service writer just phoned me to say they have to replace the lock assembly which superseded the other part you guys are talking about (he says it also locks the steering wheel).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

my car is at the dealer's, says the ignition switch was faulty. the symptoms were a stuck key, problems with the a/c not turning on and other electrical gremlins. Q: what should it cost if the dealer replaces it? i don't have the time or inclination for a diy. verbal quote was $700-800! this seems waaay out of line...

POST 2Original post

Verify which ignition switch. The part that frequently goes out on the 996 and Boxster starts with #4A09043?.... (Sorry I am at home and I can't remember the whole number) It's a Porsche/Audi/VW part and costs about $25 and doesn't take long to replace. The symptoms you described are what happens when this part fails. I'd look into that a little more before I OK'd that procedure.

Parts and labor is $650...they're trying to milk my 3rd party warranty co. for it. they also want $160 to replace one burnt bulb behind the odometer...

POST 7Original post

What! That bulb is about $5 and to replace it takes about 10 minutes max.
