Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello: Currently having my coolant expansion tank replaced (01 996c2). When people have had this done in the past, did they replace the coolant as well? It seems expensive ~$800 from an indy (Rennwerke) and they said they put new coolant in ($50/gallon). Thanks, Ross

POST 2Original post

The coolant tank is about $250, and an hour to install. Any G12 compliant coolant will suffice. Texaco-Havoline DEX-Cool is $5 a gallon plus 1 gallon of distilled water. A coolant tank replacement is worth about $400 tops, parts and labor.

POST 3Original post

Most dealers would do it for less then your indie is charging

POST 4Original post

I just ordered one yesterday from Sunset for my 1999 & it was $169.00. Porsche coolant is Purple & goes for $50.00/gal. Make sure you got a new cap as well.....or order one for ~$11.00.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

yeah thats what kind of bothers me... in the NY area i think the going rate post tax is probably like $700. But then again, the part was $300 (I know sunset is cheaper but this was an emergency), coolant is 150, so 3.5 hours labor, is 800.

POST 6Original post

That's a lot of $$$ for a job that only takes 20 minutes and requires little effort. I'll be in NYC this weekend, if you get Sunset to overnight you a tank I'll gladly help you put it in.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks but too late... i havent paid yet, i think it was a misquote.. pick the car up tomorrow or saturday. I think it should be ~600... 700 at most.

POST 8Original post

Eli, Any "tricks" you care to share........? And the car is doing great......I bought a new tranny for $1000.00 off of Pelican Should get it next week some time........ - Cam

POST 9Original post

Nice Cam! good score. On the tank, make sure to cut off the big plastic tab. Reduces the installation down to about 5 minutes.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Car is fixed - the original quote was wrong... Paid ~$550. That seems to make sense.

POST 12Original post

That sounds much better......good to hear it!
