This is not a probability of success.

I have a 997s: RMS replaced 3X's so far...so from my experience the 997 seal means little.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sure enough.. I looked under two post 2002 911s today, and both were leaking!! UNbelievable... The one I want still has warranty, so I would have the 997 gasket put in. What else should I expect to drop cash on besides clutch and typical wear items. I've searched the archives and the RMS is the big one... Anything else? Thanks, Greg

POST 2Original post

if it's still under warranty, what's the concern?

POST 3Original post

Hello, I have a 997s: RMS replaced 3X's so far...so from my experience the 997 seal means little. However, in the grand scheme of things it is a progressive issue (wont leave you stranded suddenly) and is inexpensive to have fixed (for a porsche). Best of luck in your search.

POST 4Original post

RMS is the only one for the '02 and up AFAIK. Make sure they chnage the intermediate shaft seal with the self-sealing bolts as well when you have it done. The newest and latest seal plus the self-sealing bolts seem to work for most people. I just had it done about 3,000 miles ago, and it seems to be holding up fine. Some oily "sweat", but no real leak. Jury is still out on this latest and greatest solution,.

POST 5Original post

The installation tool/procedure for the updated RMS has been modified to prevent damage to the seal; it was getting 'knicked' as it passed up and over the tool during insertion, hence ending up with an RMS leak. With the new 'flaring' during install, the updated seal results have been much better.

POST 6Original post

did 3 replacement give you a new engine? or porshce wants to keep trying?

POST 7Original post

Just the seal every time, and only theories as to what the cause is. I have come to think of it in the same category as crop circles, ufo's ect.

POST 8Original post

The coolant tank seems to go at some point as well... not a huge deal, going rate seems to be $600 but you can do it yourself
