Just to answer my sons question regarding "are there any Over 40 Porsche Owners Around" I am 42 and still kicking Hard. Are there many of 40 and Over like Daddy on this forum ? Do you drive your 996 Daily ?
Have a birthday coming up (in the mid 50's)- still driving Porsches, racing shifterkarts and cars, and I drive the various toys when my boys let me...
(My dad drove his Porsche till he was nearly 80 and my sister still drives her 914 at 60...)
43, daily driver and track car. Took me that long to afford one, in my line your earning potential is markedly delayed compared to peers, usually late thirties. By that time most of us have wives, kids and need a house, so self gratification tends to take a backseat for a bit.
I think that most 911 drivers are over 40 - I thought that was the classic profile?
I think its that way in the UK, maybe over here the split is different as the cars are cheaper to buy and run
I must admit that I'm over 40...although I act like a teenager (according to my wife). I only use my 996TT Cab when the weather is great, but boy is it fun then!!!! Unfortunately the State Patrol does not share my enjoyment.
Turning 40 this fall. Bought a 40th Anniversary (996) last October for my upcoming 40th...that how I rationalised the purchase to my wife....also told her it was a heck of a lot cheaper than a mistress.
Fortunately (for me) my wife has a great sens of humour.
48 here. The C4S is a three season car, gets garaged as soon as the salt trucks come out. Otherwise a daily driver and frequent track visitor.
Maybe it's second childhood
. Unfortunately, new 911's were unaffordable during the first childhood.
57, retired from full time business and a grandfather.....looking forward to Pfaff track day at Shannonville on June 15...anyone else going to be there???
2001 996 C2 cab, seal grey/grey with PSE, 18s and M030
...but I bought my first 911 in 1993 when I was 36. I needed the rear seats for my then little kids. So, four Porsches in 12 years isn't that bad, right? Now the kids don't fit back there and they don't want to be seen with me anyway. They have never been my daily drivers...nor do I track them. Just drive the snot out of them on weekends when the weather permits me to!
Kind of a typical question coming from youth. Sort of like does someone over forty still have sex? Younger folks (now I'm not talking about kids here but those in their 20's or early 30's) think life slows/stops at 40 and television programming reflects it as well. I think an awful lot of people (especially on this board) are here to tell you different.
I grew up with a neighbor who would trade his Porsche for another about every two years. He was the neighborhood "wrench" and was always working on it. I'd hang out drooling as my father owned a new '63 Rambler station wagon (eeeewww). When I finally got to ride in the neighbors car, I was hooked. I purchased my first Porsche as a teen in 1973 (with my own hard earned savings). Although I haven't owned them through the years, I never lost the passion. The 996 C2 Cab was an early gift to myself for my 50th birthday. My only question -- why have I waited so long (I know that answer)?
The passion for the car does not end at forty (or fifty, sixty, etc.). Fact is, I think it keeps you young having to "drive" rather than just ride around.

47 here. My wife's hairdresser said "I used to think over 40 guys bought Porsches because of a mid-life crisis or something. Now (that I'm older) I figured out that they are the guys who can afford it".
BTW...there is a LOT of truth to the statement "life begins at 40"...that has truly been the case for me.
I am 47. My first car (and first PORSCHE) was a 1957 1600 Normal given to me by my Dad. So I was spoiled form the beginning.
I also enjoy Go-Karting!!
Your only as old as you think!!!!!!!!
Sincerely, John
40 is the new 30, haven't you heard?
i'll be hitting 4-0 this yr, i drove the 996 everyday and tracked it whenever possible. tell your kid porsche owners hit their stride when they're 40 and older. p. newman came in 2nd overal in a 935/77 at le mans. he was 54--so there.
Just cracked 40 last week. Am on Porsche number 12 and have had one since age 20. Will never be without one again. 996 is the daily driver. In high school, got voted most likely not to see forty; so I had the mid-life crisis at 20 with the first Porsche. What do a bunch of high school kids know anyways?
Started driving Porsches in 1997. Four cars later I'm 48 with no end to the cars (and hopefully my age) in sight. I do believe that most of us over 40 guys probably couldn't afford a "nice" car until our incomes ramped up in middle age........
Bought my first Porsche at 42. Couldn't afford one until then. At 59, a 996 Cab is my daily driver. According to PCNA, the average US Porsche driver is in the neighborhood of age 46.
50 here! I bought my first Pcar at 28 and have loved every one of them. This is my third and I am looking at a fourth....but gotta sell the 99C2 first! Unfortunately I don't get to drive it as much as I would like. It wouldn't look too good pulling up in most customers lots in a Pcar....Hehehe...they might think they are paying me too much!
40 years old! I've got neckties older than that. Coming up on 54 and been driving Porsches off and on since 1975. It wasn't until 1993 that I could comfortably afford a new 911. I'm on my 3rd now.
Cheers,
54 and on my second Porsche. Bought my 928 in 97, and just bought my Carrera in March, Love both of them equally. Only drive them in good weather, same as my GTO.
I'm 56, 2 porsches, an Austin Healey and a very fast cycle. I try to drive them all but the 04' Targa is my favorite. My 2 older sons have porsches which they track. So cars are kind of a family thing.
56 here. Had to wait until I was 44 to buy my first one. Drive it daily and I'm going to keep driving them daily until I can't drive anymore. Have a 3 y/o daughter, and expecting a new baby in four weeks. I don't believe in my parents' model of how age is supposed to affect your life. I intend to keep "Livin Large" until I drop.

When I first saw this b e a t i f u l sporst car called Porsche 930 on a poster.
17
When I first saw a porsche pull along side our car at 120KPH(this was fast back then) for a few secs enough to drop my jaw and then it just burst into hi rpm and disappeared. I was in AWE!
38
When I first got my first Porsche. Oh what a feeling! 97 Carrera Coupe 993
40
Got my second Porsche, 02 Carrera Coupe
Loving every second I'm on the wheel
First Porsche at 15, salvaged 356 rebuilt as a cab by the Highway Patrol Man next door, didn't really appreciate until later in life. Turned 50 bought an 03 C4 Cab to go with my emminently practical (ha ha!!) Cayenne S. Now I have all of the Colorado seasons covered. Driving the 996 takes the years and stress off every time I get in it. Got the bug to buy a new Turbo but will put that off for a couple of years.
Since I was 23 years of age and I'll be 56 in June....Was hitch-hiking home from College and got a ride over the mountains with a professor in a new 1967 911S....I was hooked!
I have owned about 15 Porsches over the years...some as daily drivers, a few for racing and a few to buy and sell.....I liked everyone including the 997S Cab. I drove for a day a few weeks ago but a 996TT , '03 or '04 next...it suits an "old Man" like me
I turned 54 in February. Bought my first Porsche ('04 996) in March of this year. Told my wife that instead of being 54, I was now "fifty-Porsch" (without the "e"! You know, like all of the non-Porsche people pronounce it!). I am having a great time with it!
I got my first sports car a 63 Corvette when I was 21. I'm 64 have had 5 Corvettes. This is my first Porsche which I bought new in 99. Drive it every day in the summer when it doesn't rain.
BTW I'm entering a mountain bike race this Saturday and hope to kick some of the young guys buts.
mid 30's, feel like mid 40's... told my wife " honey, i'm going through premature midlife crisis... It's time for my dream car... " and it worked :-) !
coming from an M3..love the rawness/ power in the 911 as a daily car!
Even at 56 I could'nt even come close to ownership on my hourly wage plus tips....but that all changed when I got the gig as a valet parking attendant at various tony bistros along South Beach...now that addage "Drive it like you stole it"....is soooo true.
Have you seen the movie"Lost in the Translation"? Exact same line when Bill Murray told Scarlet Johansen that he just turned "40". Scarlet response...."
Did you buy a porsche?"
Jeeze.. another age thread...
I got my first Porsche at 19 in 1957, it was a club racer (pre 356). The Dr was building these in a garage in Austria.
I'm 66 now and the Pcar doesn't raise as many eyebrows as when I whip off my helmet getting off my sports touring bike.......
I work at a BMW Motorcycle dealer in ABQ. FWI your a baby compared to the 75 and 80 year olds riding r1100s's and just sold a K1200s to a guy 75 years old!
KEEP ON KEEPEN ON!!
This is an interesting thread. I'm 61 and when I think about growing up in the 50s and seeing men looking old when they were in their 40s, I can't help but notice the difference today with respect to aging. I have to think that it's the work men did. Working in steel mills or other tough factory jobs took their toll on men. For example when I was a teenager, I remember being amazed when I saw my 55 year old dentist standing next to his 46 year old brother who worked at Bethlehem steel. The dentist looked like he was in his early 40s and the steel worker looked like he was in his late 50s.
Bought my first Porsche at age 26. I'm 56 now and drive number 8 (C4S cab midnight blue/grey). Best Porsche ever, daily driver, and overall car number 34 since age 17. You only go around once....
Riotgear - I am exactly twice your age and have owned exactly 1/2 the number of P-cars you have owned. So mathematically speaking, maybe I can make both sides of that equation balance. Let's see... 27 times 2 (don't forget to carry the 1...) then divide by... Nope! Anyway I look at it, I still have an extra 27 years and I am still one p-car short! RATS!
Oh, well, I'll just have to take a drive in the 996 to make me feel better!
27 here... I've grew up riding on the back of my fathers 911's. Porsche made part of who I am and who I became. I've always resisted the temptation of buying a boxster.... So I owned M3 E30 (at 19) Z3 M roasters (had 2)and other sports cars but now..... P O R S C H E.
Bought my first Porsche at 32, have had one ever since. Drive my 2003 C4S whenever the weather allows, about 10k miles/yr. I am glad I didn't have a car like it when I was in my twenties, I think that all that power coupled with the indescretions of youth would make for a dangerous combination. I think it was Mark Twain who said "youth is wasted on the young". I would paraphrase and suggest that it takes some seasoning to fully appreciate a porsche.
So, true. In my twenties I had a 400 HP 951 Turbo S that ended up sacrificing itself and taking a tree with it. Lessons of youth say never skimp on tires.
Got my first Porsche at last year 48, then my second 10 months later. I drive them on the weekends. I can't see putting 70 daily freeway miles on either of them...
Hi everyone! I'm 45 and somebody forgot to tell me so because I really love sports cars and in particular, my '01 C2 Cab! I'll be posting pictures and details very soon being that this is my first reply to this great forum.
Hi, I am 29. First Porsche. I can't get enough of my 911. But due to my busy lifestyle can only drive it 8 times a month and only for six months per year (Due to snow). Estimate I drive it 50 days per year. Slow into the corners and fast out. Yea!
Got my 993 C2S three years ago at 40, upgraded two years ago to a 996 C2 coupe. Both are weekend cars -- everytime I see the 996 in the garage it brings a BIG smile. Everytime I get behind the wheel, I get a BIGGER smile. There is nothing like it.
Mark
ME TOO KIM !!! NEVER GOT THE DAMN MONEY TO BUY THE CAR !!!
MY FIRST AT 42 ! A 993 C2 EUROSPECS. (20K MILES ONLY.)
I AM 42, DRIVE LIKE 32, FEEL LIKE 26 AND DO IT AS A 18 !!!!!
MY WIFE SAYS I BEHIVE LIKE AN 8 !!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA ----- ELOY
The good thing about being over 40 and driving a Porsche is that your body can take it.
When I go riding motocross with my kids I'm always reminded that I'm getting old.
You would be amazed how many over 40 race motocylce Enduros.
I'd like to think that we are all permanently 29 yrs old.
First Porsche was a 99 c2 cab Polar silver, second was a 04 c2. I was 31 when i first got my Porsche. A new one is on the way...Not sure when it will land. I would like to have a Porsche in the stable for the rest of my days
My first Porsche was the 1989 944 that I got brand new in January 1991 when I was seventeen years old. My family was going to buy me a used 944 but the car I ended up with was on the dealer's lot for something like a year and a half and the dealer gave us an unbelievable price (too unbelieveable to post) on it. I took great care of it and still have the car. It's awesome for carrying things that don't fit in my newer Porsche, and for driving my dog around and also for parking in places I wouldn't want to park the 996.
The second Porsche is a 2003 Carrera 4S that I bought when I was 29. At the time I bought the car, I had recently paid off all my student loans and had the extra money to buy something fun. Also one of the main reasons I can afford to pay for this car is that I don't have kids and at the time I bought the car I didn't expect to ever have any since I was still with my ex-fiance who didn't want kids. I'm not in any way judging the people with kids, just stating that money for everyone is a finite quantity.
I got my Boxster when I was in the UK at the age of 24 - this was as close you can get to an investment for a modeern car as you can get - tiny depreciation
When I moved here I could not believe how badly these cars depreciate and snapped up my '99 996 for basically what i sold my 97 boxster (exchange rate helped)
Money allowing I would like to get a 996 TT before I turn 30 - that will give me a few years of usage before kids come along and I have to buy something big like a 5 series beemer
Wow, from the UK to Nashville. Talk about your paradigm shifts!
Lots of us on the board have kids, so the P-car is usually a 3rd car, so I'd recommend you keep the 996 and buy a Honda, rather than replacing it with a 5 series once the kids come. Once you get rid of the P-car, it's 5 times harder to get it back while the kids are still little.
I'm 36, on my second Porsche, and I hope, just HOPE, I can relax for a while before I start surfing ebay again looking for the next great thing...
Bought my first Porsche, a 2000 Boxster S (used), at 37. Next came a 2003 Carrera 4S (new) at 39. I'm 41 now and have a 2003 Turbo (used). I have loved them all and am a Porsche customer for life. No plans to purchase a 997 though. I'm not a big fan of the front end styling although the performance and enhancements and interior trim is way ahead of the 996's.
43. This is my 1st Porsche. Ordered it brand new from the factory in '99 at the very peak of the market and I paid sticker. Love it with the Fabspeeds and ROW 030 at the track. Hard and loud baby!
I did the exact same thing right before my 40th Bday. Bought my 40 year 911 for my 40th and it is #0440.

Picked up my first Porsche, a beater 914, in 78. I was 25 then. I couldn't afford a 911 until I was pretty close to 40. Hopefully I can get a TT by 60, without having to get a divorce, that is
I think I can afford one now, but everyone in the house doesn't agree.
Wow, a TT at 29 - At that age, I probably would have ran it into a ditch doing 180.
I only had beaters up until I was about 30, which was probably good, 'cause I still wracked up plenty of tickets. Now, I drive like a Grandma.
Haha...that's what my girlfriend says (knew her back when I had my '95 Camry in college) - she's a schizophrenic (no offense to those with the actual disorder) - half the time she loves driving fast, the other half apparently we're all going to die. No change in driving, BTW.
Anyways, surprisingly I'm a very focused driver. 2 speeding tickets in my life, both in college 1 week apart from each other. A couple accidents which taught me the value of snow tires, and that's it.
Like most others on this forum, my car and I have a spiritual connection...though, it's always been that way. Leased an '01 Audi A4 out of college, traded it in for an '01 X5 4.4i, traded that for an '01 330CiC, then I went all out for the Turbo...this one's going to be hard to beat.
I got my first Porche when I was 18.
Unfortunately that was in 1958. It was a '52 Speedster with a bored out VW engine. Probably made in Ferdi's Austrian garage pre 356. The entire car was about 36" high. Windshield was 8" & it had side curtains. Very ameteurish manufacturing. My Alpha - same vintage, ran rings around it. Had to put sand bags under the bonnet to keep the front wheels in traction. No radial tires then...
27 now. Bought my 996 cab when I was 26. Coming out of sports sedans (BMW, MB) as my most recent "rides" the Pcar is a true joy and what I fell like I NEED to be in!
For some time I thought this would be the "last" car...however, that being said - the more I drive, the more it's obvious...this is the "first" one! Will the 997 Turbo be as good as the 996?
...any of you guys saw the printed add with a kid on a swing, a 911 in the background and a caption to the effect "Sold in 1973, Bought in 2004" ...or something along those lines.
Had a Silver Turbo Poster in my bedroom as a teenager....got the Silver 40th for my 40th...alll that was missing was the giant whaletail like the picture...
How old were you guys when you figured out you wanted a 911 ? I think I was about 12.
I just turned 36 in December, bought my Cab when I was 35, but I would say I fell in love with the "911" at 13 or 14. When I was in Junior High, a friend's dad was a doctor and he was the only guy I knew personally that drove a 911. I still remember it - late 70s model, silver, black interior, lots o' fun, and lots o' trips to the mechanic. He later upgraded to a Red 964 Cab and I fell even more deeply in love with the cars.
...i had the one with a hot brunette in a wetsuit, sitting in a white 930 cab w/gold wheels, on the beach with a surfboard sticking out the back. was a pcar dreamer since i was about 12. it now hangs proudly in my garage with the rest of my porsche poster collection. remember my first ride...a test drive with my old man when the 944's first came out....he was a caddy man back then and as hard as i tried couldn't get him to bite as my persuasion skills had yet to be honed.
bought my C4 at 37 my goal was to own one by 40 which i drive as daily as possible and added the 951 last year. will be 40 in june '06
happy holidays to all you pcar nuts!!!!!
I guess at 28 I am under the average age. I bought my first Porsche earlier this year. Two tours in Iraq helped me afford it. Also my wife works. I only drive it a couple times a week and I am also gone from home a lot so it sits more than I would like. My wife took it to work today because her 05 Mini is having electrical problems. Anybody else let or not let there wife drive their car?
I'm 28. My first Porsche was an '86 951 purchased in '96. It was factory pearl white / burgandy. I never should have sold it......
Second Porsche was an '86 944 na Guards Red / Black. Purchased in '98. Still in the garage.
Current daily is a '99 996 C4 cab. Can't wait for summer.
