I used weights and wedges to hold the mesh snug while epoxy dried.
Leading evidence: 'Use weights and wedges' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean radiators' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I painted mesh black first, then installed it with epoxy on the back side of the bumper while I had it off cleaning the radiators.

The straight ones seem like they would be the best as to not interrupt the pattern of the airflow as much and are the ones used by Porsche in their factory designs.

Trapper I know you said you used epoxy, but can you give a brief explanation on how you mounted them, etc.?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm one of those who put screens over the radiator intakes to help with debris injestion and improve the look (IMHO). What is the general opinion on this regarding restricting airflow. I didn't do the math but guessing I am losing about 25 % of the air flow due to the mesh. I have not seen any increase in water temperature on the gauges but here in Ohio we don't have too many really hot days to push the cooling system.
I think it looks good....my main question is what about cutting a 6"x 6" sq hole on the fender liner to get the airflow all the way thru. This is something I think would combat high temps for rads and brakes on track days.
That won't work because the wheel whell is a high pressure area. The tires are giant air turbines. Look at the prototype race cars, they all have louvers at the top of the fenders to let the air pressure out.
Trapper, I think they look great. +1 on did you do them yourself or buy them?
If you aren't seeing increased temps on your gauges, and don't notice any difference, I would think you are fine, but you would want to monitor it after driving in various conditions/seasons.
Cheers,
DS
I found the design of the mesh also having a role in air flow. Stay away from Home Depot style gutter guard type mesh and you should be fine. The straight ones seem like they would be the best as to not interrupt the pattern of the airflow as much and are the ones used by Porsche in their factory designs.
This has been on my to-do for the past two years but as with many projects, it's been on the backburner for awhile...
I would think the leaves and debris you accumulate in a few months would be more obstructive than the screens. They look great. I have been thinking of doing this on my car, but with a dark blue car they need to be black.
Guilty as charged. Aluminum Home Depot gutter guard. I would have preferred using round wire mesh because of your concern with airflow myself, but I could find any.
I painted mesh black first, then installed it with epoxy on the back side of the bumper while I had it off cleaning the radiators. It was very easy.
I'll see if I can post close ups tomorrow.
Looks really good. Had this in mind myself for a while now to stop crap (Mainly stone chips) from hitting the Condensors or radiators and damaging them. Home depo it is then, **** or bust, which I think is a very appropraite saying in this case haha. So is your outside temp sensor simply hiding behind the mesh?
Dont worry about it. Also, on the aero bumper that you have, you can remove the center section and screen that as well. It is made to cut out for the third radiator on the GT3. Then you will have even more air flow through the front end-if that is your concern...
There are rubber boots between the intake ducts and the radiators so any air from an opened up center duct would not reach the radiators unfortunately.
Well, I bought aluminum gutter guard at Home Depot or Lowe's for about $5. One piece does both ducts. I cut the approximate shape of the duct out of the mesh with about a one inch overlap and spray painted the mesh black on both sides. After removing the bumper, you simply bend the edges of the mesh around the lip of the duct from the back side and carefully epoxy the edges of the mesh to the bumper. There will be a lot careful trimming necessary for the mesh to fit tightly. You have to look at how the rubber boot fits up against the bumper to makes sure the mesh is glued in place where it won't interfere with how the rubber seals around the duct. I used weights and wedges to hold the mesh snug while epoxy dried. Remember, I did this on an aero bumper so not sure if it will work on other bumpers, but I would think it would be the same.
Looks good, I might think about it myself.
Incidentally the louvers on 'sport prototype' wheel arches are to bleed air into the low pressure created over the body work and reduce the lift created.
the 3.4 already have heating issues... I say don't screen and just due an annual cleaning. With that said, I have a 3rd radiator and put a screen there since it is lower and up front.
