I knew the new and improved ZII's were becoming available to the US in early 2013, but didn't expect to see them already for sale (I checked almost weekly).

Only option I have here is SCCA, and I haven't seen the RTR class ran when I drove the M3.

I was excited to replace all the tires (recently purchased the car) because they aren't the best, and the rears are a little stretched (255 on a 10) which I absolutely hate.

Suggestion

the scca offers an RTR class that allows you to run street tire in a stock prep class which would be A-stock for the 996.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

While taking out the exhaust in the 996 to have the gundo hack completed, I noticed some serious compromise in the sidewall of one of my rear tires. Basically it was starting to tear apart. I was excited to replace all the tires (recently purchased the car) because they aren't the best, and the rears are a little stretched (255 on a 10) which I absolutely hate. So I immediately started shopping on tire rack a little earlier than expected (was going to at least wear the rest of these tires down) thinking I'm stuck upgrading early to the old Dunlop Star Spec Z1's... I knew the new and improved ZII's were becoming available to the US in early 2013, but didn't expect to see them already for sale (I checked almost weekly). Best news, not only did I get to upgrade to the tire I've been waiting for at the best possible time, but the ZII's are actually a little cheaper in my 18" fitment than the older Z1's! Only bad news... The carrera doesn't qualify to be in any street tire classes, so I won't be competitive in autocross in it unless I get dedicated R Comps... I refuse to commit any serious $ to autocross, a real track would be a different story (not available on Island). Anyway, just letting you all know the awesome Star Specs (I'm a fanboy) finally have their predecessors released.

POST 2Original post

Great to hear about the new tires. I loved the Z1, hopefully the ZII are better.

thanks for the heads up on the new star specs avail. btw, do you autox with scca, pca, or nasa? the scca offers an RTR class that allows you to run street tire in a stock prep class which would be A-stock for the 996. i may try that this season for fun with these new star specs.

Only option I have here is SCCA, and I haven't seen the RTR class ran when I drove the M3. I'd likely be the only person in the class... at least I'd be the winner every time! Looks like I spent my money well though: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y.jsp?ttid=168
