Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

One of my detailing clients called me today with a sordid tale. His 02 cab started showing symptoms of a bad Aos. He had the car towed to Orlando where his weekend house is. The shop he towed it to is called the Magic Mechanic. The name alone worries me. Mechanic originally gave an estimate for the aos at around $800.00 which sounds about normal. They called my client today and now the estimate is over $2500.00 with no explanation. The mechanic did say that the car will not crank now. The mechanic said that he put a wrench on the crank and it wouldn't turn. Obviously something is terribly wrong with this scenario. Repairs were never authorized so why was the engine dropped to access the crank...assuming the mechanic wasn't bull****ting the guy. The owner checked the oil when the smoke first began. It was fine and there were no abnormal engine noises. He even drove the car home a few miles away without any problems and no CEL. So, I am trying to help my client find a good Indy in Orlando. I really think he is getting a bait and switch and just all around getting ripped off. Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide.

POST 2Original post

Vortex in Tampa Fl seems good - of course 100 miles away (and probably too late). Sorry about the troubles.

POST 3Original post

Call Don at German Excellence in Orlando [phone removed]). He does all my maintenance and is a great Porsche guy...

POST 4Original post

Maybe the " wrench on the crank" was on the pully end and the engine is still in the car & stll a shot at a clean second opinion.
