buy used 996 and install aero kit after or look for one with kit already

hi guys, had a quick question i was hoping that someone might be able to give some insight on...im in the market for a used 996, but the only way i like them is if they have the factory aero kit...so i was wondering if you guys could give your input on these two scenarios...either find a used 996 with the aero kit already on, or buy any 996 and then install the aero kit after...i guess to make a informed decision i need to know how much it would cost to purchase and install an oem aero kit...so anyone who has done this please let me know how much it cost...i would greatly appreciate it...thanks alot

oem aerokit will cost you dearly so get it with the car. if you also like aftermarket kit, then it's not so costly to add on.

indeed... the aero kit will probably add about 18 cents to the resale value, so if you can find one already done, go for it. As far as pricing goes, I don't have any current data, but you could try some of the board sponsors as many of them do offer very good values. Perhaps a follow up poster has some recent price data and can add that info to the thread for you.

The aero kit is a lot like a swiming pool in your back yard. Some people love them, others won't buy a house with the pool. Unless I tracked the car regularly, I wouldn't want an aero kit. I like a car that's a sleeper rather than one that screams high performance. That's one of the reasons I prefer a 911 over a C6.

18 cents? aero kit c2s i've seen usually sell for about $5k more than non aero kit ones from my research..

Aero Kits are a premium option when buying new and in most cases they seem to sell for the same or lower than a used car without. No hard data just my qualitative opinion based on being a constant price watcher.

I'm on your side on this. The 996 looks rather boring without the GT3 aerokit on it. It is a sleeper. Zzzzz I'd most definitely look for one that comes from the factory with the kit on. I've also noticed that factory aerokitted cars generally sell for higher than just your regular joe 996s, ceteris paribus.

agreed i've been shopping around and the aero kit cars definitely seem to sell for more. Weren't these kits almost 9 grand when new? I only want one with the aero kit and I think it will be much easier and cheaper to buy a car that already has one installed. JMO

Someone just posted a beautiful blue metallic with GT3 Aero factory installed. He has it for sale. The aero cars will cost more money, period. Best of luck!

the aerokit is about a 5k factory option, it should add about 2-3k to a used car's value, this of course depends on the buyer wanting aerokit or not. most people either like it or hate it, there are few that could go either way (when buying used). that said, if you definitely want an aerokit car, buy one with it already, you will save alot of money. to add aerokit aftermarket would cost about 4-5k and you would spend another 2-3k on painting and installation.

The OEM Aerokit is a easy install on a non aero car, place your importance on finding a good car and you can add the aero with no problem.

that's a beauitful car for sale and low miles too. I'm personally hoping to wait another year. Once the 997s start popping up used I think the even the 02+ 996s will take a price hit.

I was in the same boat - would only consider buying a car with an aerokit on it. Unfortunately these cars also get a few extra grand on the market. I think brand new the option listed at something like $8k. Even paying the $2-3k premium for a used car w/aerokit will be cheaper than buying OEM or aftermarket kit and having it painted and installed. Unless you find the absolute perfect car without one I would recommend buying one with it already installed. Be patient too. I got a great C2 cab w/aerokit last year for a good price after months of waiting and looking.

I just bought this car with. Substantial price and hassle factor savings finding one with the kit. Since my car will see a bunch of track time, and having owned a widebody in the past, I considered it a must. Aero really changes the character of the car.

The GT3 cupII OEM areo kit cost $7-9k installed. It adds about $5-6k of value to nice clean car.It defininatley makes the car more desireable for most people because it makes more unique,and enhances performance, and that is why you and most others want one. Elliot
