Well as a nube to Porsches and the Rennlist I asked if any of you could recommend some roads to get me there that were other than the normal Interstate highway route.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Hello All!
A couple months ago I bought a Porsche 996 in West Virginia, only problem is I live in Los Angeles! So, rather than ship it, I decided to make the drive across the country with my buddy Mark Im also Mark by the way.
Well as a nube to Porsches and the Rennlist I asked if any of you could recommend some roads to get me there that were other than the normal Interstate highway route. Some of you gave me some great suggestions, or at least introduced a number of options to me.

Well Im happy to report my 996 made it home- man what a trip!! Crazy twisting, winding roads, long flat roads and everything in between- really a dream ride for a 911. Since some of you requested a photo album I put one together just for peeps here. There are really some amazing shots in there if I do say so myself, mostly because Americas land is so spectacular. I took a lot of photos knowing I was going to make this album so there are lots of pictures of the car with the scenery. Read the captions if you have the time, theres some good info in there, as well as a laugh or two. Im adding links for a high-res and low-res version. To check them out I recommend the low-res, if you want to really check out a shot in full detail use the high res.

Heres one...
How absolutely fantastic....I suggested (as probably others did) the million dollar hwy, and Mesa Verde.....and now to see it come true is just great....you guys look like you had a blast.....I've done that part of the trip on a motorcycle several times......what a great photojournal.....you have memories to last a lifetime......glad to have a guy like you on the forum....and last but not least, your car looks great!!!!!
Wow!... thanks for sharing... now I can't wait to get to drive my P-car on the Million Dollar Hwy...
What an awesome way to get acquainted with your awesome new wheels!
congrats on the new car. First off the car looks amazing I love the wheels, aero kit, color combo. The roads look great too really nice pictures it must have been a very memorable experience. Again congrats your pictures make me wanna go on a road trip now.
Glad you like the pics!! It certainly was memorable, the pictures give a feel but dont come close to doing the drive justice. The great thing was that all through Colorado and further West was the total lack of cars on the road (well Kansas too heheh). You could tell that during Summer the roads are packed and slow moving judging by the number of campgrounds that were completely empty this time of year. Without the traffic I cant even begin to tell you how amazing it was to drive through all this, rather quickly I might add Not really pushing it but enough to have a fun and enjoy the views... ahhh the views... just unreal. Rlandis's tip on driving the million dollar highway was by far the best part of the trip! That road (US 550 from Montrose to Durango) simply RULED! At times you would be right on edge with almost a sheer cliff to your right

my buddy and I made bizarre audible noises at times it was so spectacular! If you have MS streets or even Mapquest do a look see up close at the 550.
The car was amazing too. I had a 94 RX7 for 8 years that I really loved but unfortunately the motor blew so I bought my first Porsche. I was expecting to be in pain daily like my 7 did to me on road trips, Nope not at all, it really turned out to be a great touring car. We did have one miss-hap right at 20,000 miles the engine light came on with some fuel rich codes so Im taking it in for an oil change and to get that checked out tomorrow.
As for keeping the car clean, we had PERFECT weather the whole way 40-50 degrees no rain or snow which helped. We did take it to a car wash twice though to get the bugs, one of the Wal Mart stops was to pick up some car supplies. Now that it its home its been very well detailed. The side orange reflectors have been replaced with smoked and my new orangeless headlights should arrive any day!
Lastly the Mario Andretti school in vegas was amazing too. 3 laps at 180 MPH. A whole new appeciation for the G's drivers go through. but thats a whole nother story....
Does anyone else have one of those Bel Accelerometers I mentioned in one of the captions in the album?
