Interesting, when I had my fabspeed exhaust installed I didnt pay attention to the process of reattaching them.

the issue will be that your old tips may well be rusted on (my bolts were) the clamps will likely need replaced (mine did) and you may even need to torch off the rusted bolts (needed that on one of mine).

Suggestion
Maybe you should call the dealer and ask how much the large single exhaust tips run.....lol....$500 is a DEAL for Porsche tips....$200 is a STEAL....Porsche tips from techart or Ruf or Gembella can be like $1000!!!!

I've noticed that some on eBay appear to attach by slipping on and tightening with a screw.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

you mean like these? I paid about $450 plus a half hour to install.
the old tips can be a pig to get off (mine were, I gave up and let the dealer torch them off) as the bolts and clips tend to get rusty.

As mentioned above - these guys have them on sale on ebay all the time...but they make these turbo like tips that fit a regular 996 exhaust.
might not stick out farther but it's definitely much more noticeable than the oval tips which follows the curve of the bumper better on the narrowbodies. which is the reason why you guys are probably "upgrading" anyways.
on the turbo or c4s, the rear bumper is much chunkier and hides the sides of the tips much better whereas on the narrows, it's just too noticeable. looks out of place and awkward.
sure it's an eyes of the beholder thing - just sharing my opinion, take it personally if u want
They are stock on "Wide Body" P Cars generally. Turbos and C4S'. For narrow body cars you can purchse similar ones that look the same. Help me out guys. Do the C4S or Turbo Tips fit a narrow body stock..
I have the 'sticky-out' tips as well - love 'em!
They are HUGE!
Which is part of their attraction of course.
Not cheap, but then it's not a screw-on Pep-Boys muffler tip.
I was a complete wuss and let the stealership put them on after reading of seized bolts etc etc
I think I just found my next mod.
I've looked at the ones of SpiderV6's car and they look great, but I wasn't sure that they would fit on my car, so I didn't pull the trigger. Now that I know that fit pre-'02 cars I'll add this onto my list of jobs to do.
We did a group buy from this guy for alu pedals. He's selling these turbo look tips. Don't know if the tips are any good... maybe I should put another group buy together!

I might be in on a group buy... but not it you did it immediately. Also, we need him to give us a better deal than he did last time, considering the amount of business we gave him.
Don't want my wife to start calling the car my money pit.
I worry about the comment in the ad you posted that said welding was required. What's the deal there?
Fellas:
Personally, I like the look of the dual tips better. Call me a poseur if you want. I don't care.
I'm in for a group buy.
I am a bit confused about some things...so to clarify:
Will these fit a C2 Cab ('02)?
Is this a DIY or not?
Thanks, in advance, for the answers.

This ^ design is "bassackwards" from the OEM Turbo tips. The OEM tips have the larger outlet as a complete oval with the smaller oval joining into the larger outlet. The ebay tips have the larger outlet joining into the smaller oval. I don't suppose it really makes any difference functionally.
functionally? They don't
do
anything except for look damn ccol
and $450? It's a genuine Porsche part, so............
and frankly, I'd rather pay money for those (that you can actually see) rather than for some spacers which move my wheels out by 0.0154879555 inches........
horses for courses....beauty is in the eye of the beholder......etc.....
...so it's marked up incredibly high even though it doesn't do anything except make other P-car owners "in the know" think you're trying to make your base ride into an "S" version the poseur way.
If the wheel spacer has a functional purpose, that would be more preferable to me than dropping HALF A GRAND for these things. They do look nice, but they certainly wouldn't be a deal-breaker if they weren't on a car I was thinking about buying.
I like the look of the tips.... granted mine stick out more than they should... since they are from an '02+ car and mine is a '00. I did get them for a good price though, (free!) so i don't care about them sticking out.
I never changed mine for the exact same reason as tooloud10....I mean it is RIDICULOUS for the price!
I was going to to check out my ghetto muffler shop and have them fabricate some tips for me. What the heck is the dang difference? When is the last time you guys went to pep boys? They sell some pretty OK stainless tips...who would know? I dont mind spending money on stuff...but yeah I am 100% with tooloud10...when I saw the "perfect" dual tips I wanted..and saw that they were $750??? FOR TIPS!!!
my stockers looked so perfect!
These things really are over inflated. Let me know how it goes with the muffler shop manufacturing. Might be less to have one weld them up then have them re dipped...
I've noticed that some on eBay appear to attach by slipping on and tightening with a screw. However my stock tips appear welded on to the exhaust. Anybody do it themselves or is this a muffler shop/dealer install? Am I missing something obvious?
Thanks
If I wanted to pretend I had an 'S' it would be easier to buy a fake 'S' and stick it on.....
Your suggestion is to save $200 and go with ebay tips that don't look right (as referenced in a previous post) and may or may not fit exactly (as Porsche manufactured ones are guaranteed to do).
If that's what makes you happy, go for it. Nothing wrong with that.
Like I said, horses for courses.
I'll inquire again: "

To you guys that don't like the dual tips, why don't you start your own thread and quit wasting our time.
the stock tips are bolts and clamps - no welding. it's a clean install. the issue will be that your old tips may well be rusted on (my bolts were) the clamps will likely need replaced (mine did) and you may even need to torch off the rusted bolts (needed that on one of mine).
So, getting them off can be a pain, but fitting the new ones was literally slide them on and tighten them up.
Interesting, when I had my fabspeed exhaust installed I didnt pay attention to the process of reattaching them. And I was just under there for a while when I flushed my coolant..... How observant I am not!
That design is how it is for the X54, smaller oval cuts into larger oval. It's obviously different for the C2's with the larger oval cutting into the smaller oval.
Here are mine....custom made and installed at AAA Muffler in LA....you can get a good muffler shop to do it for a few hundred installed....
I think what B Choi is saying is that the exhaust cutout on the narrow body and wide body cars is slightly different. The narrow body cutout is more round, and the narrow body is more oval, so the tips seem to follow the contour of the cutout better, in his opinion. I see what he is saying, and its slight...I like them either way.
it looks siq on your ride, newport. u did it right. i can already tell even from that poor angle that it sits tighter with the bumper and doesn't jut out like a pair of straight pipes on a mustang.
whether narrow or wide, fellas... it needs to sit tight against the bodywork to look right. since the stock tips are made for the widebodies, you need a customize it like newport, but that's extra effort which peeps haven't been doing.
for me, little things add up to a lot.
Maybe you should call the dealer and ask how much the large single exhaust tips run.....lol....$500 is a DEAL for Porsche tips....$200 is a STEAL....Porsche tips from techart or Ruf or Gembella can be like $1000!!!!
Thanks! I cheated though...I have a TT bumper modded for a narrow body so my exhaust cutout is oval, not round...I think thats all you are seeing in comparison.
Arnee - you are correct that the X54 tips are designed that the smaller oval cuts into larger oval. However, you are incorrect about C2 being different from that design. I have a 2004 C2 and my car came with the X54 tips fitted at the factory.
I agree with Ben. To each their own (except spinners! NO SPINNERS!)
I think that on a narrow body, all stock, the ovals look right. With a wide body, or spoilers/lowering/aeros and other "go fast" looking mods the turbo tips look good.
For mine though, it looks classy stock and looks kinda "poseurish" to put on the dual tips. Never seen it in person though. Sometimes that makes all the difference...
