Suggestion

If you're going to recommend alternative vehicles, I would think it much more accurate to point out the Infiniti FX before the Acura MDX.

Suggestion

The beauty of either is that they don't come with all that silly, HEAVY low-range 4WD hardware that no is ever going to use anyway.

If we had a place to really use the handling of the 996, it would win hands down.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I may find it necessary to consolidate my daily driver and my 911. Anyone pull this off to any degree of satisfaction?

POST 2Original post

I drive both. 996 for me and Cayenne S for my wife. If you want to go the SUV route, you can't do much better in my opinion. It will never compare to 996 however. Apples to oranges.

POST 3Original post

I agree with ML...I drove a pepper while my car was in the shop getting a new AC unit. The first day was awesome...after about 4 or 5 days I couldn't wait to get me car back. The Cayenne S is a great SUV...but it's a far cry from a sports car.

POST 4Original post

I added one to my stable. Loved it! Had to get rid of it b/c we need something a bit more baby friendly tow vehicle. If I could only have one vehicle, then it would be a Cayenne (S or TT).

POST 5Original post

love my 996...and my wifes X5.....looked at the cayenne really hard and at the end of the day, the X5 seemed to be a more luxurious and better made car.

POST 6Original post

We owned both a Cayenne Turbo and a 2000 996 (at the same time) for close to a year. Of course, I enjoyed driving both but they each had a different "feeling" when you were driving them. The 996 was the best when you were throwing it into a twisty part of the road. Most other times, I liked the Pepper TT better. Whether it was going a mile to the store or driving a couple of hours to the lake. Whether it was the MUCH nicer interior, the incredible torque, the sound of the V8, or just the flexibility of the vehicle, I'm not sure. If we had a place to really use the handling of the 996, it would win hands down. But in real world conditions, the Pepper TT is hard to beat. Bag the CS and buy the CTT!!!!

POST 7Original post

Don't shoot. Please. Check out the Acura MDX. Price-point is quite a bit below the Cayenne S, but still appointed nicely with good seats/dash etc. Handles really well, too. Look isn't classic, but muscular/modern in a way you'll either like a lot or not at all.....

If you're going to recommend alternative vehicles, I would think it much more accurate to point out the Infiniti FX before the Acura MDX. It has much more sporting aspirations than the Acura. The beauty of either is that they don't come with all that silly, HEAVY low-range 4WD hardware that no is ever going to use anyway.

POST 9Original post

I checked out the FX. Was a bit "truckier" in feel than the Acura, though it sat lower. Also seemed a little dated and thought the seats were less comfortable. It should be near an update, and given that at release it competed well with the Cayenne I bet it would be a great alternative when that happens. Like computers, cars leapfrog each other as they are updated. Unlike computers, they are on a several year cycle so the recent updates often move to the forefront, and so on and so on. In fact, I'm being a little unfair since I haven't been in the '08 Cayenne to see how much better than our MDX it is.
