Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My local Porsche dealer has seven used 996s on his lot. I visit their web site regularly, and yesterday I noticed that he substantially reduced the prices on all of his 996s. A couple of months ago I offered that dealer $65K for an '02C4S with 28K miles. The lowest he would go was $66K. By the way the car has a "new" rebuilt engine because of an RMS leak. Well, the price for that car is now $59,900. Also, an '03 C2 996 which listed for $68K a couple of months ago is now being offered at $61K. The price decreases on his 996s are in the $7K to $9K range.

POST 2Original post

This happens every year around this time where I"m from. It's the end of the season and they want to ditch the nice weather cars...

POST 3Original post

So frost--do you have a p-car or is it paralysis by analysis. I dont get it--99.999% of cars are investment vehicles!!!! Homes Property Securities are. Its out with the old in with the new--whatever the marketplace will bear is what the price will be. Mike

POST 6Original post

Most of these people who are so into values maybe should not have paid for a car at this level ! I am so tired of all the threads on the values of 996's and 993's etc............. My motta is "shut up and drive"!!!!!!!!!!!!

POST 7Original post

By the way, my dad bought a BMW 850I when they first came out in 1991 I believe....V12 and all that engineering he paid 90k for it when they were hard to get....(sounds like 997 buyers).. He sold it 2 years later for 55k because BMW cut the prices so far down due to lack of sales! (sounds like early 40th anniv buyers)............ Needless to say he hates BMW's!!!!!!!!!! Robert

POST 8Original post

I could give a rat's *** if my $90K MY2003 996 s worth nothing. I love this car and I will drive it until the wheels fall off or it barfs all of the oil out of the crankcase from RMS leaks.

POST 9Original post

And as Grizzy said - if I had been worrying aboiut that I would still be wondering whether owning one of these is going to be a good investment. For me the 'investment' happens every time I get in the car - I invest in my LIFE! Get out and drive! Barry

POST 10Original post

Agree....look what happened to the 40th anniv car....all these cars depreciate some faster than others depends what is hot and wanted.....I agree just enjoy your car and drive the hell out of it

POST 11Original post

Finally some sane people........... Enjoy your weekend!

POST 12Original post

actually, i have done quite well with my p-car when compared to my stock market endeavors in 2000. enjoy these cars, that what they are for!

POST 13Original post

Two things: 1. This sounds an aweful lot like a post from Sly. Sly makes inflammatory posts thinly veiled as requesting info or relaying relvant data, then runs away and watches the ****storm he creates. For those of you who don't know Sly, here's some examples of his prior work: http://forums1.roadfly.org/porsche/f...4828828-1.html http://forums1.roadfly.org/porsche/f...5242188-1.html https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...&highlight=bmw 2. Anyway, frost, assuming that you and sly are not one in the same, didn't you post already that you bought a C4S? What's the point of your post? Shouldn't be out driving your new car or something? Can I get a friggen HALLELUJAH?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

POST 14Original post

and money is easily replaced. I've lost 25k so far on my 40th and couldn't care less at this point. I have no intention on selling the car, love driving it and modding it (smoked corners, PSE, Ruf pedals, window tint, and X74 on order). Now losing a loved one serving in Iraq, that matters. the depreciation on a new porsche is not. Just the cost of admission to a wonderful experience.

POST 15Original post

Great points! Buy the darn thing and don't look back. Porsche's are meant to be driven and not fretted about. Why do so many people confuse their buying decisions by trying to predict resale values!? Buy what you like for what you can afford and enjoy it. Life is short so die with a grin on your face.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wow, I didn't expect that kind of response. The intent of my post was simply to alert any prospective buyers that this is a good time to buy based on my limited research. It certainly wasn't meant to suggest that Porsches are poor investments. I bought an '02 C4S about two months ago, so I'm hardly on the fence.

POST 17Original post

Frayed: Excellent post. Interesting that "frost" doesn't deny your central allegation.

POST 18Original post

Frost, FWIW, I took your post as it was intended, thanks! Seems as though you touched a nerve with some

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Chris: Thanks. Also FWIW I ain't sly. And no offense to sly, just in case he/she takes offense at my response.

POST 20Original post

So frost, as a fellow C4S owner, what's your impression of the car? That's probably a more interesting topic since we can all go to kbb.com for resale values.

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Frayed: I absolutely love it. To tell you the truth I was a litlle hesitant about buying a Porsche since reading about the RMS issues on this and other Porsche Boards, but I'm happy I didn't let the negativity deter me. My C4S is black which I believe gives the car a real menacing look. The handling and braking are far superior to any other car I've owned. The traction the C4S gets in the rain is unbelievable. Also, the fit and finish on my C4S are first rate. I live in the country and there are lots of winding roads where you can really push a Porsche and I have been having a ball the last two months. The only thing I regret is that I didn't buy a Porsche a long time ago.

POST 22Original post

Frost - boy it sure would be terrific if we could check out a photo of you and your new C4S. Any possibility that you could share one with us?

POST 23Original post

This is the best line "The only thing I regret is that I didn't buy a Porsche a long time ago." I think this is what every first timie owner says.. Enjoy Mike

POST 26Original post

sawmill, you are confused b/c lack of pictures of frost's cars, errr, I mean, sly's cars, is part of sly's game. People have asked sly for pics of his many cars in the past (GT3, Ferrari, 996, 2 M3s), which he could never produce. I believe ejax was simply testing my hypothesis that frost = sly. Hope that clears everything up.

POST 28Original post

Love the car...amazing difference vs. my 1st 911 (1988) but has maintained that 911 "feel".
