Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Replace of name' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace of name' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It has been 27 years in the making, and intense last 6 months in figuring-out + researching + becoming an addict to this forum + treating wife very very special + dreaming + saving + having great feedback from you guys to all my annoying posts.... And today armed with the big guns of knowledge, courage and checkbook I purchased one of the last 2 remaining 40th Anniversary editions in California! I still can't believe it.
It's been a hectic day and haven't had a chance to take any pictures... they will be here soon.
I want to give special thanks to Elton-in-SoCal, C4S/914-6, Alon, Sean, jeeva, RobertG, Jim, earlyapex, frayed, Bob in NY, Z0650th, and Perry (42 years Porsche owner). You guys gave me tons of inspiration, great knowledge, and courage. Without you I don't think I would have gotten 20% off MSRP!. You guys rock!.
If anyone is on the fence like I was between a nicely optioned base 997 vs. a 996 40th Anniversary, I can only say that unless you need to be seen in the latest gear (997), there is no other reason why not to get the 40th. Pictures don't do justice to the 40th (or 996 Carreras in general)... in real life they are just something else!
Cheers.
Congrats! You've got yourself a hell of a car that will surely put a smile on your face each and every time it gets driven. Now get ready to spend more money on a few essential mods.
Enjoy it
Congratulations! Like you, I spent many, many years thinking about it before I finally did it. Now I wish I had done it years earlier. The car is great and the people that own them seem to be good people too (at least, the ones that I have met to date).
Best of luck!
Barry
Congrats! That's awesome. Speaking of 40th Anniv. 911s, (I don't know if anyone cares), but Dick Vermeil, the coach of the Kansas City Chiefs has a 40th Anniv. 911. His wife bought the car as a surprise and drove it right onto the practice field through a sea of players and jumped out and gave Vermeil the keys. One of the NFL shows was there to cover it.
Your story is VERY similar to mine...especially with regards to the wife stuff.
Had to choose btw a 997 or the 40th and I picked the later. Got a great deal price-wise and just absolutely love the car. Now if I can only learn not to be so obsess with where I park the car I'll lead a normal life....
This board is a wealth of info for a newbie...keep it up.

Congratulations, you are going to love it. I second fast40 for the change of name.
40th is a lot of car, so take it to the tracks, mods can and will follow later, but you have to take it to the tracks to truly know what these cars are capable of (I've done 155mph on an empty hwy., really worked the PSM on plenty of ramps, but, these are absolutely NOTHING compared to what it can do on the track).
Glad you decided on the "seat of your pants" Porsche rather than a C4S. You've saved the weight, gained a few extra HPs and the car exemplfies the true spirt of the 911.
Fast40,
The 40th is truly a very capable machine. I've limited my modifications to suspension work (PSS9, custom alignment, and a set of track wheels/tires) to things that helped my track and autocross adventures. I just finished two very fun track days at Thunderhill raceway and an autocross (finished 8th overall). I congratulate you on buying a very special machine! Cheers! Now drive the darn thing.
Congrats Fast 40.
I too was on the fence for a bit over the 997 vs. 996 thing. In the end I went with the GT3 and could not be happier.
Hope to see you put there on the track.
Thank you all for your kind replies. I've certainly followed your suggestions and now that I've graduated, you'll know me as "Fast40th".
I'm in complete awe about this car, and I have to remind myself that I'm not dreaming. I've got constant butterflies in my stomach when I'm not driving it. But they quickly disappear once I get behind the wheel. It truly is a lot of car. Can't wait to get past the 2K mi break-in period and take this baby where it belongs.
All the best.
