Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. I've replaced 2 parking lights, and both times, had to spend some time fiddling with it before locking it back in line in its tracks.
Leading evidence: 'Replace 2 parking lights, and both times, had' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace 2 parking lights, and both times, had' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

When you say "key" is that the tool, or do I use the actual ignition key?

You can then unclip the bulb cover at the back of this pod, and replace the bulb(s).

If you look in the owners manual it will refer you to the method and tool that you need to use (which you will find in the toolkit that came with the car) - it's really easy - pull out a rubber plug, insert the key, turn, slide out the headlight, pop out out the covers and replace the bulbs.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Based on the advice of another rennlister. I purchased some silvania silverstars today.
I need some help on accessing the bulbs. Im new to p car disassembling and any pointers or step by steps would be seriously appreciated.
Thanks

Did you manage to get Ultra's, or regular Silverstars?
And make sure you lock the light pods back in properly when you're done!
Otherwise they shoot out like missiles when you stop quickly, which is:
a) very embarrassing
b) very very expensive
You're right, that would be very embarrassing! If I was at a stop light, I might just leave it and not get out of the car to claim it!
I've replaced 2 parking lights, and both times, had to spend some time fiddling with it before locking it back in line in its tracks. Taking it out was easy though.
I've seen a 911 lose a front light during autocross... you are right, it is very funny and very expensive.
... not so funny if the car is yours though.
I am picking the rest of the paperwork up on Saturday, including all of the service records from the original owner, owners manual and ?toolkit?. Is there any way I can do this without these items, it doesnt sound too tricky. When you say "key" is that the tool, or do I use the actual ignition key? Dont laugh. Rookie riding the pine.
The key is in the tool kit. It is an L-shaped tool used to turn the cam lock holding the headlight in place. You will need this tool to dis-engage the headlight.

Hehe, these things remind me of a ship in a bottle.. but really it's not that bad. As soon as you pop the assemblies out and remove the back cover, you will say, oh that's it?
I replaced the bulbs about a month ago. It's all in the manual; follow that exactly. It's very easy if you have any dexterity at all.
Note
: there's a really loud "snap" when you've disengaged the headlight assembly. It's scary at first, but don't worry: you didn't break anything, and the whole assembly will just pull out the front. Don't drop it.
Does this L shape tool have a wrench type end. I dont remember them mentioning a tool kit with the materials. I have not tried to retrofit HIDs into the non-HID housing, how is this done and how much does it cost. If needed I can use the silverstars for the alternate "fog lights" as I bought only the two last ones at the store.
Looks like this
Fits into a plugged port either side of the trunk to 'unlock' each light pod to allow them to slide out forwards as a complete unit. It moves a locking cam that is holding the light pod in place - usually with a loud bang!
Pod looks like this:
You can then unclip the bulb cover at the back of this pod, and replace the bulb(s). (Don't touch the bulb with your fingers!!)
Refit by sliding the pod onto the rails you'll see in the wing, push home and lock in place using the key. It should snap in place as you rotate the key back.
You can just fold the carpet back from the top - should be just a screw in plastic plug and the rubber hood gasket holding it in place either side of the trunk.
Ok, just got my paperwork from the dealer and no tool kit. Where on the car would it be if it were there. What are some other options. On ebay they are 200 plus shipping. HELP
Toolkit should be in the velcro pouch on the spare wheel cover
If you don't have one - then you can buy the tools you really need, like the headlamp tool, separately from the dealer. Should be around $14 for the tool.
The other part you'll want to have in the car is the screw-in tow eye, in case you ever need a tow.
That's $15 or so from the dealer
Just wanted to resurrect this thread with a quick question. I'm going to change bulbs tomorrow. What's wrong touching the lamps? I don't think I've been that careful when doing the same on my Nissan.
You don't want to touch the glass part of the bulbs as the oils from your skin will adheare to the glass. This causes a hot spot on the glass when the bulb it lit, which in turn can cause it to fail prematurely.
Be careful if you are using "HID" or "xenon" lights off ebay. In some cases these can melt your headlight lens. I got lucky and caught it early enough. The ones I used were 6700 or so. The temperature limit is much lower. You have been warned.
