Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello all, I have some M030 swaybars I would like to install myself. I got under the car and started to do the work but then got scared off. Can someone with experience give me some help/advice here? I started on the front. Frist step obviously is to remove the plasctic plate that covers the underbody. Not easy to get the clips off but I was able to remove a few. Is there a trick to this that I'm missing? The next step is where I was scared off. It looks like I have to remove 4 bolts that hold a steel plate securing the front suspension (sub-frame?). One on each side. As well as two diagonal (triangle formation) support beams in order to get to the front bar. If I take these out will the suspension fall down on me? Will the front end be all out of alignment if I undo these bolts and then put it back together? Will the subframe shift? I decided that not knowing what would happen that I better stop and get some advice from someone that has done it before. The rear looks like a piece of cake. Thanks for the help in advance. Toolpants? any input? Thanks, Andy

I just installed the M030 kit on my car Saturday. Nothing will fall by removing the bolts. In fact you dont have to remove all of them. On the steel plate I removed three and just loosened the center one and pivoted the piece out of the way. On the support beams in removed the two bolts that at the tip of the triangle and loosened the other and just moved them to the side just enough for the sway bar to clear. Good luck. Lee

Hey, I just got my suspension kit and I'm getting ready to do the install. Need some more advice Simple qustion. I have never worked on a 911 before, where can I place jack stands? I know about the jacking points, but once the car is in the air, where to I put the stans? Thanks, Andy

POST 5Original post

On the front, I set the jack inboard of the jacking point on the frame and lift the front. You can get it high enough to put a jack stand under both sides. (trick, especially on the back, use hockey pucks between the jack stand and the jack point). Then on the rear, I put the jack at the center point of the cross-member toward the front of the engine. Lift the entire rear, put two more jack stands in place, and you're in business. is that really your plate? cause that's cool.

su20, Thanks for the advice. Yes that is my real plate, but I'm still waiting for it to come. Can you believe that it wasn't taken yet? andy
