Since then I've installed a B&M SSK, new pedals, done the built-in garage door opener hack, put in euro sidemarkers, and last weekend installed JIC coilovers and an H&R rear sway bar.

We dropped the engine and trans to change the clutch, and it turned into a complete rebuild (just because we could).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

33 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi from a life-long Porsche nut. I've been a fan of everything Porsche since I taped up that first magazine ad by my bed when I was a kid. It was a 2-page ad, with a 911 turbo, a 928, a 944, and maybe one more, all in white... but I digress. My first Porsche was a 914 that my dad bought from a guy in a bar for $150. It needed a new clutch, and the stealer quoted him $650. No rust in the pan, so it was a great deal. We dropped the engine and trans to change the clutch, and it turned into a complete rebuild (just because we could). It even turned guards red in the process. First Porsche to wear the "SU 20" tag. Great car, full time job keeping it running. After my son was born, I had my eye on a used 944. My wife's stipulation was that I had to get a child seat in the back. ??!!? Remove the seat frame, cut away a bunch of plastic, mount some eye bolts, create straps that bolt to the seat belt mounting points under the seat, voila. My finest hour. Though it may not have been legal. When the Boxster was introduced, I drove one, and it felt unbelievable. I ordered one and drove it until the S came out, and someone I work with bought one, then I had to sell it. I went through a bunch of Audi's since then, including a couple S4's with some considerable mods. Also a very nice car. Then last December when I picked up an 02 C4S. Man is it nice. Since then I've installed a B&M SSK, new pedals, done the built-in garage door opener hack, put in euro sidemarkers, and last weekend installed JIC coilovers and an H&R rear sway bar. It's just back from alignment, and it rocks. I took a few pics. I can't figure out how to embed them in this post, but it looks like I can attach them... Thanks to rennlist for the site, and to everyone for all the helpful advice, this is the go-to place for great insight. I hope to be able to contribute back. And hopefully I'll meet some of you at the NJ spring fling on the 15th!

POST 2Original post

POST 3Original post

Very nice ride. Love the C4S's. Although you're not new to P-Cars, welcome to Rennlist and the 996 nuthouse. Sounds like you've already got a bad case of the 911 sickness!

POST 7Original post

Beautiful Seal Gray C4S - welcome and congratulations from another Phil with a C4S.

Congrats! Nice car - hope we see you in lambertville on the 15th! it would be good to see it up close and in person.

POST 12Original post

Su20....some of us California guys are retired.....others have to actually work for a living. But regardless of which coast, hemisphere, continent...we all have a common bond where we come together...these cars.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Amen, Chuck. I'm trying to retire myself! financially challenged. we do share the bond though!

POST 16Original post

POST 20Original post

Welcome... nice car. Thanks for the photos... are all those photos after the JIC coilovers were installed?

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Arnee, pics are after the JIC install. Ride height all around is just under 25 1/2" (road to fender through wheel center), which is about an inch lower than it was and right about on the GT2 specs.

POST 23Original post

Welcome on-board from one C4S owner to another. Great looking car. Used to have a seal grey cabrio and the color is awesome. What interior color does it have? Enjoy the experience.

POST 24Original post

love the seal grey!! I think it is one of the best porsche colors for a 996 period

POST 25Original post

Congrats - The car looks stunning!!! See you on the 15th.

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, Manny! I love the 996 C4S/Turbo look, it's a terrific car. Seal grey is the perfect color, IMHO. I love black, too, but it's a full-time job and I'd rather be driving. Interior is black, btw...

POST 27 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, looking forward to the 15th! You'll have your painted console in by then, I suppose

POST 28Original post

Tim, don't do that unless you've got a little dog!!

POST 29Original post

C4S are one of the best looking porsches around........

POST 30Original post

su20, congratulations on the purchase of a beautiful car. I love the seal grey exterior with a black interior. The aluminum pedals really look nice with the other silver accents.

POST 31 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, Mark. I couldn't be happier with it. although the exhaust seems like it could use a little work...

POST 32Original post

Good point Ray, but I think I'll be OK with these! BTW - they are my crack security team!
