i'm using yokohama avs, they came on my cargraphic rims (which i found out while back are the same set as what gemballa will sell you).

but at first i was certain they mistakingly sent me a set for a widebody.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm about to take the plunge into 19x8.5 and 19x10's.....
I really dont care much for the following..
continental sport contact 2's or dunlop sport 9000s...but that seems to be whats out there!
Im quite sure there are a few of us rennlisters that have plenty of feedback, so please sound off!
I'm mainly concerned with the overall quality issues and not particularly interested about the "tirewear" characteristics, since they WONT see that many TRACK miles and mostly just weekend/daily driven street mileage.
Thanks in advance
Yoks AVS are probably the best as far as dry grip, better than the Cont's or Dunlops. I friend has a set of Cargraphics 19" for the 996 for sale, if interested you can email me @

On narrow cars, you DONT get that much of a lip, since they arent 11's and most manufacturers cant build enough offset to fit the body AND clear the calipers, so you end up with something more like this.....
on a narrow 996
i'm using yokohama avs, they came on my cargraphic rims (which i found out while back are the same set as what gemballa will sell you). in any case the rear tires are huge and the wheels are the only set that i know of that will enable a 315/25/19 tire on the rear of a narrow body 996. expensive however.
That 315/25/19 sounds like WAAAY too much tire, and I am truly amazed that it fits....did u roll your fenders at all? How big is that LIP on the rear wheels and do you have a pic of this
thanks for your response
senna,
check out the link below. i was amazed as well when cargraphic told me what tires are on there. apparently they used to send out 305s on the rear. but at first i was certain they mistakingly sent me a set for a widebody. not so. clearance is actually no problem. as you can see from the pics, the car is really low (H&R coilovers) and the issue is not rubbing from the tires but the front lips scraping. let me know if you need more info.
OH you are in SF? so am i. live in Alameda but work in SF. if you want, come buy and look.

The Ruf rims are not svelte, but like anything else on these cars it is a trade-off. They are one-piece cast, and I believe are the stongest 19" wheels out there. If you are planning on using them for performance driving, think about the extra loading an 11" wheel will be subject to before deciding that lighter is always better. If you are not planning on using them for performance driving, what difference does a few pounds make
I sent u a PrivateMessage...check your inbox on the board! I'd really like to chk out your car, and compare notes....here's a pic of my car now. It currently has Turbo 2/C4s wheels like the ones on all the PDE instructor cars, but I really need more than a stock look, and am upgrading to H & R coilovers next month!
The Yok AVS 315/25/19 is actually on the small side in comparison to other 315's in this series. Also the corners are rounded and slightly narrower tread pattern. I don't think the 315's in other mfgrs would fit the narrow body. I could be wrong.
Thanks for the referral to Virgil! I assume that you would give this guy a 100% credibility, right? I think his offer is a good deal, given the tires aren't totally worn. I'm in the Bay Area, so drivin' down there is more expensive to me than having them shipped up from LA via Trucking companies....its just a little stressful buying something "sight-unseen"
The Bydesign guys say that the dunlops worked on a narrow 996 WITH lowering springs....does this SOUND right? This is in regard to CARGRAPHIC 19's and not other styles or brands, just to clarify!
Val, Virgil is a tech at BD he does mods all day long. If anyone would know which wheels and tires will fit, he would.
I haven't seen the wheels, but I'm sure they are fine. See if you can get some pics. I didn't realize they came with tires! For the price he mentioned to me, I assumed they were just wheels only.
