Here's my dilemma, take used 17's with scratches or for a couple bucks more get new 18's.

If you track enough to worry about tire wear, buy some used OE wheels and shod them with DOT-R rubber.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm about ready to purchase some snow tires. I currently have 18" rims. I've heard that for winter 17"s perform better. I was thinking of getting 18"s because I could use them for track or autocross events and not mess up my sport designs. What should I buy 17" or 18? And why? Thanks!

POST 2Original post

Hang on, are saying you want to track and/or autocross on snow tires? That's not the best idea I've heard today. Buy some cheap replica 17s for your snow tires. If you track enough to worry about tire wear, buy some used OE wheels and shod them with DOT-R rubber. -Paul

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No Paul I'd just use the "winter rims" with track/autocross tires. I'd keep my current rims and street tires for everyday driving. Make sense? If not, please tell me.

POST 4Original post

path, I hear that 17s are better in the snow as well, but not sure if I wanna shell out the extra cash for new winter rims. I think 18s will be fine with good snow tires...just that 17's might be marginally better....

C4 Cab, The URL doesn't work. The error message is "the page could not be loaded". Could you please pass it onto Mark. Thanks for your assistance. Here's my dilemma, take used 17's with scratches or for a couple bucks more get new 18's. If the performance is negligible then I'm leaning toward the 18's. What would you do?

POST 8Original post

Basically, Porsche recommends Dunplop SP Winter Sport M2: 225/40R 18 265/35R 18 so sounds like 17s are not needed.... Looked on Tire rack and Dunlop makes an M3 too, but they are not Porshce recommended. Wonder what the difference is...
