Sometime next month in London it will be a driving offense with points on your license if you are caught using your cell phone...before it use to be a slap on the wrist and maybe a fine.

Since I got my C4 coupe earlier this year, I've been paranoid at using my mobile it - working on the principle that the boys in blue would prefer to nick a flash car, I didn't want to push my luck!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sometime next month in London it will be a driving offense with points on your license if you are caught using your cell phone...before it use to be a slap on the wrist and maybe a fine. What hands free solutions have people been using and found to be the most practical? I have a BlueTooth enabled cell phone and i like the idea of having no wires or after market cradel fitted into the car. Porsche UK wants 800 pounds plus labour ($1500) to install the PCM2 phone module. Thats a bit much plus I still have to take out my SIM card from my phone and slide it into the PCM unit everytime I get in/out of the car. Plus it takes a good couple of minutes to take the sim card out of my phone.

POST 2Original post

3 people in my family all have the mercedes built-in voice activated phone and they all swear by it. I have no experience with the Porsche phone because it's not available in the US to my knowledge. If it were me, I would just use bluetooth or the Porsche factory phone.

POST 3Original post

Just get a bluetooth wireless headset. Thats all you need.

POST 4Original post

Since I got my C4 coupe earlier this year, I've been paranoid at using my mobile it - working on the principle that the boys in blue would prefer to nick a flash car, I didn't want to push my luck! So I got my local OPC to arrange for their preferred auto electrican to install a Nokia Bluetooth kit (I have a Nokia mobile). Cost, for memory, was 280 +VAT fitted. It is a simple button on the dash and a small microphone by the interior lights (ie no ugly cradles). It mutes the stereo and uses one of the speakers too. All very neat! As long as the phone is somewhere in the car with Bluetooth enabled, it works! The phone has voice recognition for my main numbers (10 max I think) as standard, so there's rarely any need to press numbers or touch the handset.

POST 5Original post

You could get a pay-as-you-go sim for the car, and divert your mobile to the car sim when your in it. This can be done by the touch of a button.
