Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

POrsche australia just sent me a letter telling me that my car is due for a "preventative service"... (6 months after delivery) I have done just over 3,000 kms. Is it worth doing an Oil change? I doubt this will be part of the preventative service. thanks Chucksta

POST 3Original post

3000 kms, that's about 2000 miles, right? I think Porsche Australia is working with a Porsche owner's tendency to "baby" their cars. My first oil change was done early at my discretion, at 7,500 miles. My dealer did it, saying it's cheap engine insurance, but affirming that it didn't need to be done. Unless you track the car or drive it really hard or in very harsh conditions, there is no need to change the oil more frequently than recommended. Regardless, 2000 miles seems to be excessively early. Once a year is fine if you rarely drive the car. OTOH, preventive maintenance may simply mean a survey check to make sure all fluids are up, tires OK, no leaks, tranny not jamming, or an excuse to get some TSB's done. I'd call the dealer to find out what "preventive maintenance" is going to be done.
