I also just had a Reus system (the mid-range one) installed on Friday and am loving it.

I wish I hadn't installed the PCM II....Best bet is to yank the OEM system, and install a good after mkt head unit which has an aux input, and then hook up your IPOD....best bets seem to be Pioneer, or Eclipse!!!!

i put a small hole in the back of my upper storage track, put a rubber grommet in there to neaten it up some (you can't see it anyway), and ran the wire from the back of my radio to the ipod.

And, changing the whole audio system does nothing to compensate for the weak door speaker mounting points or the P's acoustical environment.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I know that this is kind of a joke for those who have been following the development and continually delayed ship date of this piece of kit which will allow those with the MOST fiber optic bus to do a direct iPOD link to the Porsche.
I wrote to them a few days ago, since on their website it says that it will ship by Q2 2005 (which ended a few days ago).
Here is their latest response:
-------------
The ETA should be in or around September for the most systems.

I was previously told that this would ship by the end of Q2 2005 (June).
Is there any updated timeline on when this will be available?
I am most interested in the model for the 2004 Porsche 991.
Thank you -

Sorry the dates on the MOST kit keep getting pushed back. The techs are working hard on it but haven't been successful so far; fiber optics are proving very difficult to work with. But the word is to check back around December and see what we've got then. If you'd like me to save you the trouble you can email me your name, phone number, email address and car year, make and model and I will give you a call as soon as we have something.
Best Regards

"Let the Music be with You!"
That is just weak. Looks like FM modulator is the only option....which is what we do in both the 996 and Pepper. not the greatest sound quality but better than nothing.
For those with the CD changer in the front - isn't there a way to plug something in there to simulate that and then get rid of the changer (which would be unnecessary at that point anyway)?
TIA
Barry
i never really understood the point of the denison unit. the last time i looked at it, you couldn't even control the ipod using the head unit. i bought the becker accessory cable for $20 and hooked my ipod up that way to my 02.
now, does the most system even offer and an aux jack and cable for the back? if so, that's the way to go. i put a small hole in the back of my upper storage track, put a rubber grommet in there to neaten it up some (you can't see it anyway), and ran the wire from the back of my radio to the ipod.
works great and a hell of lot cheaper than the icelink. now if the ipod could be mounted remotely and operated through the head unit like in the BMW, that may be worth the money.
I wish I could do that. After 2002 it went to fiber (MOST) system.
If the MOST system offered an aux jack capability then we would all be using it.
I'm waiting for a solution that is not FM modulation or an aftermarket stereo to have a direct aux line-input into my 2004 fiber-optic stereo. I think I would seriously pay $1000 for a solution right now....

I didn't want to yank my oem bose as of yet. I'm reasonably happey with since it's a cab and I'm not expecting much out of it for sound anyway. I do love having the ipod in there. I think the ipod would certianly sound better with an aftermarket unit though.
Hopefully you MOST guys get a reasonable solution soon. You'd think they'd find a way to remove the changer and use an interface between the radio and the ipod.
What about the fm modulator that mounts at the fm antenna connection behind the radio. They work a thousand times better than the itrip and similar products. Much better signal and much less station drift.
Good luck guys. Not sure what would do without my ipod. Oh wait, I'd put my xm on
A hard wired modulator (with a 30khz high pass filter) sounds as good as a CD in the CDR23.
It will take a lot more than a MOST interface to get decent sound out of the Becker/Bose amps and head units. And, changing the whole audio system does nothing to compensate for the weak door speaker mounting points or the P's acoustical environment.
We listen to iPods and sat radios with $.05 head amps and seek perfection in the interface.
threeOh, you are totally right -- it is the perfection of the iPod interface which compels me to have a direct input. I realize 100% that the components in-between and the Becker/Bose units are weak links.
As an update - Yesterday I pulled the trigger on a complete Reus audiophile system for my 996 and will have iPod and Sirius integrated into the Eclipse head unit. I can't say how excited I am to have this done since the word of mouth has been so strong on his complete Porsche sound installations.
Will post pictures when install is done - if they can fit me in this year ....
I was thinking about that...
If the CD changer unit sends the digital data directly to the head unit you are hosed unless you know the MOST bus protocol. I'm guessing that they are not publishing that.
If the D/A conversion happens on the changer then you could intercept the wires, but that wouldn't be a very good design b/c you'd have to re-digitize it to get it on the MOST bus.
I had a Reus system installed in my 2003 C2 a couple of weeks ago, and it is incredible. The only problem is that my wife is getting tired of me sitting in the car in the garage at night listening to music.
The system is so good that the quality of the source material is critical. My 1970s-80s vintage CDs sound much better than they did with the original Bose system, but it is when I put in a very high-quality modern recording (e.g., the remastered Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon on SACD) that the system sounds truly spectacular. I've found this to be a problem with Sirius--when they play a high-quality recording, it does sound good. But the next song is often an older, more compressed recording that doesn't sound nearly as good. So the sound quality of Sirius is inconsistent.
The Eclipse head unit does have an AUX input for an IPOD, but I haven't tried it yet. I would be very surprised if the MP3 files sound nearly as good as uncompressed recordings.

I also just had a Reus system (the mid-range one) installed on Friday and am loving it. It is just so clear and crisp - and so much power it is incredible!
I will post a more comprehensive review and thoughts later (w/ photos) - but there is not much to take pictures of since it is such an invisible and excellent quality of installation. I got the official Eclipse iPod cable (charges it, direct line-input and you can control the iPod from the head unit) along with the Sirius radio add-on and the tweeters in the rear view mirror.
I too have noticed that it really reveals the limitation of the source material - any digital compressed music (ipod, etc.) even at higher bitrates (192 AAC, etc.) sounds noticeably crappier then a good source disc. It's likely that I will start ripping my music at FLAC (Lossless Compression) going forward..
The Eclipse head unit is not the easiest most user-friendly thing I have ever used, but I am getting the hang of it.
More to come in a direct post.....
This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
