For used car, I'd probly go back to my old car - RX7 TT since I've got personal attachment to it!

Again, nothing really compares to the road feel and handling but I do have my favorites (that are somewhat within my reach if I made a few sacrifices and got them used):

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Here's a question.. if porsche ceased product of their sports car lines or never existed.. what other sports car(s) would you consider purchasing new if a porsche wasn't an option?
Ferrari if I can afford it. Elise, SL55, XKR are on my list as new cars. For used car, I'd probly go back to my old car - RX7 TT since I've got personal attachment to it!
I'd love a Ferrari but my wife says she would divorce me. Immediately if it's a red Ferrari.
Her point is why show the whole world that your manhood is less than adequate. (Here words, not mine).Soooooo
What do you guys think of Aston Martins ?
That is a difficult question to answer. Porsche has been the only sport car that you can truly use on a daily basis. Other brands are weekend cars only or cars that dont provide the same semi-raw feeling the Porsche provides (the others provide more of GT feel rather than the feeling of a true sport cars).
Back to the question, here would be my choices. Again, nothing really compares to the road feel and handling but I do have my favorites (that are somewhat within my reach if I made a few sacrifices and got them used):
VW R32 - cause I got one
Aston Martin DB9, or the new V8 - AM has put out beautiful cars. V12, nice V8, classic design that will age well imho.
Maserati - an Italian sofa on wheels. A thing of understated beauty and that engine... nice
Corvette C6 Z06
Not many choices really...
I'd spend the cah and bring over a RX7 Spirit R. And then an Atom.
i'm actually in discussion with the north american guys in charge of atom's to acquire rights to be an official distributor in canada.
u can check out on their website all the custom options and whatnot: carbon fiber air foils (makes it look just like an F1 CAR! (its basically the huge front and rear wings) and u can get the car's tub made out of CF instead of fiberglass.
combine that will the honda K20 supercharged engine and big break pack and u've got a redicoulous powerhouse of of a car.
If you do, then I beg you to let me buy one at cost or just over for the sake of publicity since I mentioned it before anyone else. I would move to Canada just to get one.
you can get them in the US right now. they're for off street use tho...some ppl have registered them tho...have a look at ur state's regulations and see if u can sneak it by.
there's 1 test car goin on tour rite now. its in oregon but will make its way 2 the west coast later in 2006.
Personally, if Porsche stopped making sports cars tomorrow, it would not make much difference to me. But I plan to keep buying old ones for years to come.

If they stoppped, I would picked up some classis 911's! But if there we not way to get another P-Car or no such thing as a P-Car I would be very tempted by the AMV8 or DB9.
if there was a service location in nash vegas then I would get the AMV8 - stunning car
if they were more reliable and there was a service location then i would get a maserati
unfortunatelty I am too much of a practical bastard so I would probably compromise and buy a new M5 and a lotus elise for a good combination of practicality and seat of the pants driving experience. right now I have both of these attributes in my 911
actually - looking at the above statement - the 996 is SAVING me money
i'll use this argument on the wife for when I want my next mod....
Realistically?
-M3
-M5
-Corvette
-Subaru Impreza WRX STI (ricey, but a lot of performance for the $$)
-Maybe a used M Roadster
In my dreams?
-Ferrari
-Lamborghini
There are only two reasons a wife would not allow a husband to buy a Ferrari:
1. Insecurity - with a Ferrari, my husband will get attention by everyone, even the young girl next door
2. Self-Worth - my husband is not Ferrari worthy. Sure he made good coins but why would anyone need a Ferrari? Besides, the wife must be in control of the money. Husband then tucks his tail and walks away quietly. OWNED!!
I think its interesting that some people go for hard core sports cars and others go for fast lux sedans. I guess if Porsche can scratch both itches with one car, then they have a truly winning concept!
I would love an AMG E55 wagon or an M5, but I don't think it would be much of a track car.
My list would be for a 360CS or that new limited Gallardo made for the track. I hope that doesn't make me inadequate... ;-0
3- rd reason...she somehow truely hates Ferrari...too showy..which I would somehow tend to agree.
I keep coming back to Aston Martins, classy, exclusives...not sure how reliable they would be...can't say I'm a huge fan of British electronics in a car. Our Range Rover, despite having only 15,000 Miles sometimes goes up or down (suspension level) by itself at a red light.
P.S. She did see a "grey" Ferrari the other day and (almost) said that it would be ok.
New M5 (E60)
New M6
Aston Martin Vantage V8 (no back seat, though!)
Maybe Bentley Contininental GT
Money no object:
Ferrari 612 Scaglietti
If I picked the M5, I would have to get a dedicated roadster like the Beck Porsche 550 Spyder or a Morgan. I also like the Atom, but what do you do if it rains or in cold weather?
After I passed through the stages of denial, acceptance and grief, my top choices in order would be:
'96 993 TT
'06 M6
'06 Z06
If not one of those, then a Camry..hehe
New M5 Would be a great car to have...although the ferrari 612 is also really good. good choices.
as for the atom: if it rains, store a jacket in the front boot. Ur wearing a helmet anyhow
Have to concur as well. My wife is the one that wanted a P-Car before we met and knew I met my future bride when she said her dream car is a Porsche. Now we own two and she has already COMMANDED me to purchase a new one for myself so she doesn't have to share "hers" on track days!!!
God I love that woman!
Nothing else really comes close to the streetability and track prowess of a 911 or Boxster, straight out of the box. Add that many Porsche dealers are good to work with and have helpful service depts, and it's a winner.
I echo RJMDAD's idea of an Elise (even though I still would never buy another Rover! ;-)). A C6 Z06 would be a good option as well. I really like the Noble M12 and M400, but a warranty is key. And worst-case scenario - not a 'worst' case at all really! - would be an E46 M3 with all the modifications I already have. :-)
