Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I really love the 996 and 996TT. But I can't drive a stick. I really don't want to drive one with all the traffic here in L.A. But is it really worth getting a stick over a tiptronic? Is there a tremendous difference in acceleration? Doesnt the tiptronic provide some aspect of driving manually?

POST 2Original post

as u know us on this side of the pond we normally are all stick drivers (or can drive stick). purely for fun i would learn to drive stick as a far more involving and rewarding from of driving. nothing compaires to accelarating through the gears, or blipping the throttle when changing down. however if you are in bumper to bumper traffic 95pct of the time - a manual or stick shift will soon loose its appeal.

POST 3Original post

I bought my cab with tip mostly for my wife. Although I have to admit that I have really warmed up to the tip because of the commute and traffic that we put on the car. If I was to track the car or have time to really drive it more on open roads, I guess I would really miss the stick, but as it stands right now, I havent missed it. The tip does shift too early in my opinion but it is significantly better when you compare it to have to push in on a clutch all the time.

POST 4Original post

A tip is a great selling point for women, seriously, that's why PAG imports more tips to the US than anywhere else. Just a way to expand the market of potential buyers, not meaning to flame you tip guys and gals, JMO.

POST 5Original post

Mine is for sale...it's a TIP and SC'd. http://www.969motorsports.com/index.php?page=nfo_used1 was originally asking 72, but now willing to listen to any reasonable offer.

POST 6Original post

Chris, I think you may be quoting incorrectly. I read recently (Porsche web site stats) that there are more tips sold in Europe (more specifically Germany) than in the US! I would have thought for sure the US would lead the world in Tips but just not the case. Amazing isn't it? Still, I have to agree, there is just something about having a 6-speed that really makes you feel connected to the car.

POST 7Original post

Had a Tip on the C2 and 6 Speed on the GT3. Tip is fine for everything except, perhaps, ***** to the wall tracking. I did track my Tip and found that it lacks a gear. You seldom use first and that only gives you four more. I never got to fifth/top even at WGI. Taht leaves three. The 6 speed guys could pull away from me due to slightly lighter weight AND different gearing at the same point....ie different ratios. Not a lot, but apparent. You never over rev either shifting up or down when nusing the Tip. Plus, when it shifts(even at the apex) the car is never unsettled. Around town the Tip is fine. If that was the only thing to diferentiate two cars that I was choosing between.....I wouldn't let that be the deciding factor unless I was totaly a track guy. But then you'd be getting a GT3 anyhow!!!!

POST 8Original post

When I went looking for my '99 I specifically went looking for a Tip just for the same reason, lots of stop and go city driving. I can drive a stick and have had a few cars with them, but for everything other than tracking the car I find a Tip to be the most usable and enjoyable. Just my 2 cents worth. -Richard '99 996 Coupe Guards Red, Tip, Full Leather
