Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I don't do anything special, just make sure the locking posts on the hard top are properly adjusted so I don't get metal on metal contact.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Should have a detachable hardtop coming in this weekend for my hardtop-delete '04. Question: what do you folks who have a detachable top do to protect the paint on the car's rear deck? Is protection necessary? I'm thinking about a strip of that 3M clear product normally put on front to guard against stone indignities. As an aside, there is available an aftermarket glue-on chrome strip for '02 to '05 T'birds, designed specifically for this purpose.

POST 2Original post

There is a large foam strip that goes all the way around the perimeter of the underside of the hard top where it contacts the car's rear deck (the clamshell). I don't do anything special, just make sure the locking posts on the hard top are properly adjusted so I don't get metal on metal contact. I also make sure everything is super clean before putting on the hard top. No issues for me.
