Bumperettes are easily replaced, but in my NYC garage, I use a pair of heavy padded bumper pads that clip to the wheel wells.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Someone must have backed up into my car while parked FAR AWAY from everyone in a parking garage this morning. Badly scratched and dented the two bumpers on either side of my license plate. Question, are these easy to replace and is it a DIY project? Or do I need a complete new bumper. I carry high deductibles on my insurance otherwise it wouldn't much matter to me. Thanks in advance.

POST 2Original post

Contact Eric at bumper plugs who is on the board as a sponsor. He will get it repainted for you.

POST 3Original post

ditto on eric, i wouldn't spend too much time trying to get it right myself,

POST 4Original post

Depends. Is it just the bumperettes, or the whole bumper? Bumperettes = Eric.

POST 5Original post

The bumperettes are easy to remove so it should be a quick fix. S.

POST 6Original post

I would check the rest of the bumper for spider cracks in the paint. I got hit and just a small scuff in the bumperett but the rear of the bumper got flexed to much and cracked the paint. Had the whole thing repainted.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks. Just sent Eric a message. You guys are great as usual!

POST 8Original post

This is a good post to check out for those wanting to remove their bumperettes. They probably saved you some money.

POST 9Original post

My bumperette was scuffed and also now is loose. Seems that it is installed using clips - females inside the bumper and males on the bumperette. My female (s) may be missing as when I try to mate the clips by pushing the bumperette back in, nothing grips. So, once I refurbish how do I reattach - glue? How do I find Eric?- FYI I'm new to this forum. Danke, Grretl.

They are installed via a 8mm Allen Head bolt that goes up from the bottom. Very easy to remove.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Contact Eric at [email removed] . Or go to his website bumperplugs.com. He is very responsive. I ordered a set of bumper plugs and am weighing options for the bumperettes. Since mine were damaged, Eric has to order new ones and have them painted. I have some rock chips and bumper scratches so I may replace the entire bumper.

POST 12Original post

Bumperettes are easily replaced, but in my NYC garage, I use a pair of heavy padded bumper pads that clip to the wheel wells. The provide a good cushion for the inevitable taps. Something like these or these ..

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 9215688

My 04 uses a torx bolt. Not sure when that change came in. Regardless, they are very easy to remove and reinstall. Just loosen the bolt and they lift right off. To reinstall, put them back in place and retighten the bolt.

POST 14Original post

So thanks guys-Tomorrow a.m. I'll wriggle under and mess with the bolts, and contact Eric.

POST 15Original post

No wriggling required. Just pop off the little cover on the underside of the bumperette.
