Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Howdy Boys, As you know, I have an '02 911 C4 Cab and am loving life but I have seen a number of older and newer pcars that have the navigation screen instead of the plain jane CDR radio. I have seen some people move the vent controls to the bottom tray and then install a nav system in the top two trays but I would prefer to keep the look of the interior stock rather than add an aftermarket system as most people do. Does anyone know if I can swap out my plain jane CDR (move it to the bottom tray) and replace with a porsche nav system or will it require completely different wiring? The key is I want to go with the antiquated Porsche nav becuase i really want to keep the look stock. Thoughts or suggestions?

POST 2Original post

The main issue with that plan is the 02 Nav system is very dated in features and map content.

I know this doesn't answer your immediate question, but I also have an 02 C4 Cab and I went through this EXACT dilemma. I scoured ebay etc for all the factory nav parts etc and then I rode in my friends 04 C4 with the factory Nav and it was SOOOO OUTDATED and such a horrible interface that I abandoned the effort and went the route of installing a Pioneer AVIC system with the custom template and it looks factory. Most people in my car assume it is factory - even the control lights are matched to the factory amber. Good luck

99-02 is PCM-I, Outdated in 2002 03-05 is PCM-II, Outdated in 2008

I agree with the previous comments. This conversion would be like "upgrading" an 8-track stereo to a cassette stereo. Sure, it's better... sort of... There are several great aftermarket options that look close to OEM, and the procedure is reversible if you choose.

POST 7Original post

I have PCM 2 in my CayenneS, external unit for Sat Radio.... it pretty much blows. Only good part is the Dension for iPod. Pioneer AVIC-Z in the 996, looks good, Bluetooth, Sat Radio, iPOD... maps that are upgradeable. Much better

POST 9Original post

I have PCM1 in my 2002 C4S. You can update the maps through to 2009. might not have fancy graphics etc, but gets you to where you need to go, which is pretty much all that is required of a nav system...
